How else do you get into your room?

Surely most hotels have you leave key at reception and pick it up when you come back through..
I am not against hotels taking the ID card or a copy.. Customer safety, as long as they are not unpleasant or rude about it and also realize that if you check in together shes a guest not a one nighter.. As long as its all handled respectfully I like the safety of that in BKK or other cities where theres a high turnover.

No I always keep my key with me, I have never been asked to leave it at reception in any hotel I have been in, I think its your choice whether you want to keep it or not, But by doing that though you risk the chance of losing it obviously and then have to pay for the lock to be changed, But I would rather keep the key than having to ask at reception everytime I go back...
Most hotels that I stay in ask for ID at reception, I have no problem with them doing that as its for your own safety at the end of the day, In the C&N though I just walk in and the security guard just looks at me and if I give him the nod he checks there ID, If I dont he doesnt ask them...

I'm going to Thailand in November (was originally going straight to Australia
for a year but have decided to make a 4 or 5 week stop off along the way).
Starting in Bangkok then going up to Changmai across into Laos and then
back down to Bangkok.
I'm only spending 4/5 nights in Bangkok when I arrive but will also spend
some time there after I've been to Laos.
I've been checking out hotels and the one I originally looked at (The
Ambassador) seems to have gone downhill a bit and was wondering if anyone
could recommend a decent hotel ($40-$50 with a nice pool good location and
girl friendly). I know someone posted a list at the start of the thread but The
Ambassador was on this list and its a bit af a no no supposedly, so if anyone
has any first had experience it would be appreciated.
I also remember reading somewhere on this forum that if you stayed in the
Majestic Suites you could use the facilities at the Majectic Grande, anyone
know if is this true?
This forum has been dead handy when looking into my holiday a great
resource for anyone looking at Thailand.
Cheers

Swiss Lodge on Convent Road, Silom is GF.
Stayed at this hotel several times for a few days each time. Good location near to Patpong, Saladaeng BTS and Silom Subway. Good quality small hotel, but not cheap. Very friendly staff. In my experience no problem bringing back ladies and no joiner charge.

Pretty good for Soi Cowboy, not good at all for Nana Plaza but that's not a hardship for me. Got upgraded to their Garden Wing last time--much better accomodations--separate living room and bedroom. That's what I will reserve next time as the price isn't that much higher, but the quality is. GF--the security guard will take her ID in the parking lot, which is all to the good.
