On my way out of Thailand, I stayed right on Soi Cowboy in Bangkok. I wanted to be near the action on my last night. The place I stayed was called Penny Black. The room I got was priced at 1,500 baht. I got 1,400 so there is probably room for even more bargaining. The room was brand new and had an excellent view. The only drawback was the shower which had kept starting and stalling making bathtime quite long. The management was new there and not used to running a hotel. There is not a constant presence at the desk and it takes 3 or more people to do the job of one there. I, myself, foolishly allowed the desk person to hold my passport till I'd realized what I'd done. Why she took it is beyond me. Then one of the managers or owners personally delivered my laundry and collected my rent. He told me that he was going to use the change from the money I'd given him to put a deposit on the refrigerator. I never had to do that in my life of travel. I told him that wasn't acceptable and wanted my change. He said okay. But I knew immediately that my money wasn't coming back. So I waited 10 minutes and then went upstairs to the office. The manager who took my money talked to another manager who hadn't taken my money. This guy gave it back after more discussion than was needed for the matter. But my money wasn't segregated in any way(For example: In a place for refrigerator deposits for room 602.). The manager who hadn't taken my money simply removed my 400 baht from his personal funds. This made me think that they had no intention of returning my money at all.
But the fun doesn't end there. One of the managers was a portly and obviously gay man. When I'd first checked in, this guy wandered into my room in his bathrobe and with toenails painted in clear polish. My first thought was, "Hey, they don't expect me to room with this guy, do they?!" Then this obviously gay intruder began to close my curtains. I thought," Why is a gay man, wearing a bathrobe, with clear toenail polish on closing the curtains in my room?" I asked him about the curtains and he replied that he thought I wanted them closed. Then I asked who he was .. blah, blah, blah .. he's the manager .. okay.

P.S. Baccara on Soi cowboy had the best looking girls but also the most expensive. Long Gun and partners had more favorable prices. But you had to look harder for the beauties.
