Great hotel in BKK - recommended!

Just want to recommend a fairly new hotel - Town Lodge on Sukhumvit
soi 18.

Very smart boutique hotel. Nice rooms, really helpful staff, great coffee, great breakfast cooked on request, home made rolls and croissants all day, and totally, totally guest friendly. The boss is Swiss, a regular poster on a similar forum and clearly knows the score.

It was my birthday so I lashed out on a deluxe suite with jacuzzi. 2100 baht a night, so not cheap, but worth every satang. Really beautiful room, nice furniture, beautiful big bed with top quality bed linen, sexy underbed lighting, posh bath oils and shower gels and this mega two person jacuzzi in its own room! TV and DVD in both rooms!

Perhaps best of all, it has a trendy little nightclub/bar on the ground floor, called Toxic, which always has a number of girls hanging out in there and the boss obviously operates a stunners-only policy! They're ultra friendly too. Mysteriously, they seem to know what room you're staying in and if you're in one of the jacuzzi suites, they keep telling you how much they enjoy frolicking in that jacuzzi - say no more.

Only one drawback - it's right at the end of a long and very narrow soi. But they have their own tuk tuk, always on hand to run you up to the top for free (although a tip obviously doesn't go amiss). And if you really can't be arsed to walk back down from Sukhumvit, there are loads of motorbikes at the top who will run you down for 10 baht.

As a final bonus, when you do get to the top of the soi to Sukhumvit and you look across the street, you're right outside Soi Cowboy.

By the way, I'm under no inducement or obligation to say all this. It's just a great hotel, the best I've stayed in over many BKK visits, and it's worth spreading the word.

Where was this info two weeks ago when I needed it? I ended up in the noisiest hotel in the world on soi 19 and hardly slept a wink for both nights I was there.

Sounds like a great hotel,

Now after finalising my plans for my sept/oct trip only half an hour ago i have just booked my usual the majestic suites for my last night in Bkk.

If i had known then i might have given this one a test run.

Has anyone seen a website for this hotel.

I have googled it and the only place i can find it is on Bkktonight, The Jacuzzi suite is 2900 according to the ad on there.

There is a bit about it their forum (including the same report as here) looks like they have 1 room (Room no 208)with the large jacuzzi and 2 with baths with water jets.

Sorry guys, you'e probably right. Maybe it was 2900, not 2100. I'm dead dopey with money. I'll check back on my credit card statement, but I think it might show you're right.

But I was on holiday and it was my birthday so I didn't care.

As the saying goes, life's short and you're a long time dead.

They don't have a website, I got the details from BKK Tonight.

The City Lodge is right on the corner of soi 19 and sukhumvit, there is also one at soi 9, again right on the corner of Sukhumvit.

We stayed at the soi 19 one and it was awful. The window would not close properly and the traffic noise was appalling, they also charge 3500baht a night.

We were late into Bangkok and thought we would be ok in the Ambassador. As it turned out the Ambassador was hosting a royal event and was full, so it was 8pm and we had no hotel.

I know the Honey Hotel on soi 19 so we went there and it was full, the City Lodge had a room so we checked in without looking at the room. As it turned out, the place was as noisy as hell. We moved to the 7th floor for our second night but it was not a lot better.

It was our last night in Bangkok anyway, so I really did not want to be chasing around looking for a hotel, and we stayed. The place is nice, I just made the mistake of getting a hotel too close to sukhumvit.

No, this one is definitely Town Lodge, not City.

Apparently the same partners have another hotel called Swiss Grottino, which is supposed to be good as well, somewhere along Sukhumvit. Never tried it, but I seem to remember some other BMs have been and gave it a thumbs-up.

I am going to Bangkok in a few weeks and sent some e-mails to various hotels and the answer I got from the staff of Swiss Grottino was outstanding....I'll definitely try that place first.

Agreed! City Lodge sucks!! . Horribly over-priced for small mediocre rooms. When I stayed there, they charged a JOINER FEE, as well.

I would never stay there again unless really desparate.

Exactly how I have ended up there. City Lodge gets the overflow from better or more reasonable places. It's the only way they can charge so much for so little, IMO.

The lobby are the restaurant have a classy look, but the rooms are average at best, IMO, and on the small side, for my tastes, altho roooms do tend to be small in BKK.

Honey Hotel is nice in that it has one of the best staffs in BKK. But they are always full. Must book in advance. The restaurant is decent there, too. Free breadfast included, and the prices on all the meals are good. But TVs are old w/ remotes that don't work well, which is annoying. And there is one problem which is worse. At least half the rooms there, and most of the nice ones, open into a large lightwell, similar to a solarium, which has two drawbacks: 1) Your view is of the room on the other side of the well, so you might as well keep your curtains drawn, or you may have your "neighbor" looking back at you. 2) With 3 stories of air-conditioners lined up on either side of the well, there is a constant low-level churning, which is not particulary audilbe if your A/C is turned on it masks the sound of the other A/Cs, but while you may not hear it, the roar is still there, churning out constant vibrations, which causes an energy vortex to be formed. As we all know, energy vortexes are not at all good to be exposed to. If I stay there for more than a week, I go crazy!

I found the Honey Hotel fine, though fair to say getting a little old, and with the added bonus of being only 1200baht a night.

I stayed at the Town Lodge last month and would definitely recommend it, I had my girl stay over for 8 days of the 14 days I was there, I even checked in at reception with her, there were no questions asked. One tip though, ask for a street facing room as there is a big construction site behind the hotel and it can get noisy. And if you cant be assed going to Nanas or Soi Cowboy for a girl there is a really cool little nightclub called Toxic downstairs with quality girls available, it's only a short trip upstairs for boom-boom. The hotel also has free internet and tuk-tuk service, no need to pay a deposit, just pay when you check out. I'll definitely be staying there again next time I'm over.

The building site is next to TL on the left side when facing it. So ask for a room on the inside (right side) of the building.
