Beach suggestion.....
I'll be in LOS in Oct for a couple of weeks, staying a week in BKK but I would like a week on the beach somewhere nearby (up to a few hours by bus/taxi/train - absolutely no flying distance please).
I was in BKK and Pattaya last April. But I found Pattaya a bit too crowded/overrun. So I wonder if there is a quiter place nearby with nice sandy beaches/islands. I like windsurfing so that would be a big plus. Of course some bars and being able to pick up a few cuties every now and then is also a must (although I don't have to be in a different gogo bar every night...).
All failed, I'll go to Pattaya but would like to check out another place. Appreciate any suggestions with GF hotel names and the best way to get there etc.
Thanks,

South East? might be the long way round me thinks
Yeah Hua Hin sounds like the place you need. I was there after NY this year, nice place, very relaxed, some good beaches, great restaurants.
As well as other threads, try out HuaHinAfterDark loads of decent and recent info.

geez...tough school in here syeaty..................55555.....sorry wasn't looking at my map at the time....although in my head I always thought it was slightly east and quite a bit south of BKK.........
OK directly south then ......pretty much across the other side of the gulf from Patts (to the west of Patts)............
Not many other choices unless you want to fly..........

My GF lives just outside Bkk and she said last week she went to the beach for the day in Chon Buri cant be that far.
I think its in the same direction as pattaya.
Try google on that one too.

Good suggestions, I checked out Hua Hin (also Cha Am nearby), it's ideal. But there seems to be a lot of 4-5 star hotels/resorts at the top of the range that are most probably not GF. And then real dumps that are not even nice in their photos ! Any good hotel suggestions with swimming pool and GF in 1200-1400 Baht range in Hua Hin (central, close to beach) ?
I also heard from some girls that they go to Chon Buri for the beach so may be if I get a chance I also go there for a couple a day or two.

I think they mean Bang Saen (in Chonburi province) that's quite popular with the Thais. It's the kind of place you go only for a day out though and there are no bars.
As an aside I had one of those classic "only in Thailand" sights last time I was there - a guy with a metal detector starting out on the beach then wading out into the water fully clothed until he was up to his armpits

Baeng Saen is very popular among thais.
Other options are Cha-am or Koh Samet. There are both located at 3 hours from Bangkok. Accomodation in Samet is overpriced so foreign tourists begin to boycott the place. Cha-am is full of thais on week-ends. Accomodation is cheap but the beach is not so good during low tide.
