Cheap & Safe accomodation in Bangkok?

G'day,

I'm staying in Bangkok for just under a week on my way back home from Europe late Feb next year. As im not the wealthiest person around and will be even less so after 2 months in Europe I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some reasonably cheap (though relatively safe and clean...) accomodation in Bangkok. I'm thinking along the lines of hostels or backpackers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Erm, I'm going to take a guess here. Are you by any chance an Aussie doing Asia on the way home from a couple of years in London/Europe? Not been working at a Walkabout by any chance?

Anyway, Kao San Road seems to tick all your boxes. Cheap guesthouses and plenty of others doing similar trips as you. It seems to have become pretty trendy for young Thais to hang out there too, well worth a look.

Nah nah mate, im a Kiwi. Only going to Europe to spend a couple of months on the slopes then decided since Im going through Asia I might as well have a decent stopover.

Thanks for the suggestions though, i'll definitly look into them.
