New Airport

Hey Fellow BM's......

Arrived late yesterday at the new airport. Must say im pretty impressed....the hellish long cuelines from old Don Muang has disappered and there ais very clean, spacius feelling Everywhere.

It took me 30 min.. from leaving my plane(SAS), clearing immigration and claiming lugage, before i was in a meter cab, headed for Soi 4.

Its really easy to get to the cabs, just down the escalators from exit at immigration and there they are, no hassle at all.

unfortunatly, my meter cab ride, was a bit more expensive due to my late arrivel, got stuck on the off ramp to Sukhumvit, in the mother of all cues, so 370Bt from New Airport to Soi 4. I used the expressway, maybe i will take the normal road back..just to check the speed.

I dont think 370Bt is expensive...but the 200Bt i heard somewhere, going from Airport to NANA, seemed far fetched.

I decided to jump ship, from Majestic suites to Peters fabolous "Heidelberg" Hotel, opposite the Rajah Carpark...very nice small cousy hotel..clean spacius rooms.

I will now go and create a bank account at Thai farmers bank, to see how easy it is.

Take care out there, will be in phuket around 7th of december.

Lets party and alfie where are those cold beers and glasses wearing Katoys you keep talking about

I HATE TO BE THE BEARER of bad news but my friend paul returned form los on monday 20th he says like you the arrival was great he cleared passport control in less than 30 mins BUT he says the departure procedures are a total night mare he was flying with thai he arrived 4 hours and 10 mins before his flight departure and he says it took him 3 hours and 20 mins to be checked in !

it seems they have a system where each flight company has its own section of check in desks for all their flights which means if you are flying with thai or say emerites you could be in a que of people checking in for up to 6 different flights at the same time

i have not expeienced this myself so i have to go on the word of my friend so i would give yourself plenty of time at the airport for checking in for dearture

Just let them meet you outside immigration, thats on the 2 floor. Should be no problem spotting you there...if they know how you look

I paid 370 on the meter and then toll......As i said i was stuck for an hour or so on the off ramp to sukhumvit. It was the mother of all cues.....I know my way around BKK fairly good, he didnt cheat me, read all the signs, he was going in the right directions, no detour whatsoever.

I will try to get there when i depart fairly early Talbotman...Flying star alliance SAS...so that should be a few carriers in that spot, like Lufthansa,KLM,Thai and SAS.

But know im here, and i have cleared most of the jetlag hangover....just had the best massage....everything you could imagine only 400Bt, guess i was lucky...never know if she took a likening to me, kept asking for hotel 55555

Settling down for a nice cold one at tequila bar (Rajah car complex), seems heidelberg attracts all the Katoys of the world...not that im offended, but i like to have the real deal

Here's a pic of the arrival hall as you come through the doors from arrivals taken from one floor above, But be careful I think i read somewhere that there is an "A" & a "B" arrivals gate, unless one was domestic.

I never had a problem with Emirates, It was only a week after the airport opened so I went early and they were still booking in more than one flight, I think I was 2nd in the queue.

I flew out of BKK three times in October. At no time did I have more than 5 minute wait at THAI. Once the wait at immigration leaving was 20 minutes. Like any large airport there is bound to be times when the wait varies greatly by time of day or by season. With peak season approaching it should be no surprise if waits are getting longer.
Took 4 taxis between Nana and BKK. Three of them were just over 200 baht and was over 350. The last one was because of a lot of traffic, it took a hour and twenty minutes.

Thanks for the pic mars..I read somewhere there is an exit A,B AND C but that info didn't help me very much(think it was on a pattaya forum).

We do know each other so hopefully it wont be to much of a prob..
I'll give her a buzz if we can't find eachother..

I just flew in last night and agree with everybody that getting through immiagration to luggage was very quick. For me, maybe 40 minutes and that was with several planes landing at the same time as when I was walking to immigration it seemed numerous gates had people flowing out of them. The only issue I had is I saw no signs whatsoever for ground transportation when exiting. Plenty of signs for limo taxis. I was impatient after landing at midnight and wanted some bar time so I bargained with a limo guy for 600 baht plus I paid the tolls. Most of the limos guys sheets say 900 baht. 600 baht is a ripoff too but I didn't want to search for the taxi que and saving 300 baht wouldn't have done me any good if I missed out on bar time. I'll head down next time and take the taxi.

Here's a link that may help...

Suvarnabhumi Airport | New Bangkok Airport Guide

The maps are not too clear, but Level 3 was designed to be the meeting place.

Here is the same map, but you can at least enlarge it

http://www.airportsuvarnabhumi.com/Internal_Airport.pdf

Wikipedia's site has this...

Quote:
...Metered taxis are available outside the exit on the 1st floor. There is a 50 baht surcharge on the meter. The trips to the city will cost 300 – 400 baht (plus highway tolls about 60 baht) and take 40 – 60 min. depending on traffic...

and goes on to say this about Limos...

Quote:
...Additionally, flat-fare limousine are available at Arrivals Level (2nd floor). Two limousine service are provided from THAI and the Airport of Thailand (AOT)....

but fails to mention a price

well tried the domestic departure today...

Was up up very early and catched a cab, from soi 4, only 195Bt, but there was no traffic at all.

Lots of people at the airport, but checking in and where in lounge area in under 20 minutes, damn fast, remember the old don muang, could be hellish.

So now i hit the beach, real luxury resort, lots of single girls here, but the staff girls, look so much better 555555555555 well Mai pen Rai, better go have something to eat,
