Can someone explain to me airport tax at bkk airport. Do you have to pay on arrival or departure. Is it 500 bhat and will only take bhat??? DO TELL!! ALSO IT looks like all the flights arrive late evening like around midnight. Is this the time all of you guys have arrived also. Is it a problem with the hotel arriving so late?

Is it 500 bhat and will only take bhat??? DO TELL!! Yes! Only Baht is accepted and its going up to 700 Baht soon and will then be included in your flight ticket so thne will not need to worry about having the correct money at departure.

ALSO IT looks like all the flights arrive late evening like around midnight. Is this the time all of you guys have arrived also. Is it a problem with the hotel arriving so late? No problem - BKK airport has a taxi service 24 hours a day - if arriving at your hotel after 1800 then you should let the hotel know your flight arrival details or they may give your room out taking you as a 'no show'.

Spot on answers here. This should be a short thread as a result. The only thing I can add is questioning "all the flights arrive late evening like around midnight" You must be flying American or United. The airport in BKK is flowing all day..

you pay on the way out get 500 bht note put in the machine as you go through to the depart job done

No machines in the new airport, no point.

Some friends of mine who depart Thailand after the inclusion of the tax in the ticket were recently contacted by their travel agent and billed for a surcharge to cover this.

All the flights leaving chicago Ohare are land in japan(nrt) short layover like 1 to 2 hours next stop bkk. Arrival like 10:40pm. So I'm assuming by the time i get to hotel it will be midnight. Also i notice its next day arrival. Like leave 15th arrive 16th 10:40pm. I don't think i have to worry about letting hotel know about late arrival because i'm going through them for pickup at airport. I realize its more expensive but after a 22 hour flight i just want to get to hotel hassel free.

hi schmeen did not think of new airport . i left old one at the end of august they had machines as you went through to the departure lounge how would a travel agent bill you if you dont go through one you go independantly

booth near dep gates must pay cash 500 baht (is rising to 700 baht)they give you receipt which you hand in.
there is no arriaval tax as such you have to pay its already included in your ticket.

arriving late wont be a problem plenty of taxis to BKK hotels.

I was told, by customs, when i left...that the 700Bt would first be implemented in feb 2007.......I paid 500Bt to leave 2 days ago.

There is also talk of letting the whole airport tax being covered by the actual flight...dont know if that will happen though.

I think its Feb 1st when it moves into the ticket price..

I bought flights for Feb 24 that have Thai tax included (so it seems)..

How do you go 'independantly'?....you have to buy a ticket from somewhere?

From now on it is included in the ticket price. The only reason these people were contacted is that they bourght their tickets before the revised procedure came into practice. Therefore they had to up the price of the ticket after purchase and the shop they brought it from contacted them for the surcharge.

Anyone buying after the change will pay automatically.

Feb 1st is the date of the increase in price, and a lot better system it will be.
