If you are once in Bali, you have to visit Lombok, it is just a short trip by a speed ferry. Lombok is completely different then Bali and have beautifull beaches with superb clearly waters to snorkle and dive .

And when you are in Lombok and you are the 2 of you..... just make the little trip to Gili Trawangan. It is worth the effort. Very nice guesthouses, very nice beach. Very laid back. Very good snorkling just off the beach. When I was there back in 1995 nightlife was virual zero..... Only thing they did..... Every night they held 1 beach party in a different cafe/pub/restaurant. So you where able to party every night, but only in one establishment. In '95 no motor vehicles allowed.

Bali on the other hand..... and Kuta especialy..... is the party capital of Indonesia. But it's up to you... what are you looking for?

If you want to know more... just ask.

Cheers,

Raval

How Bali could be considered boring I have no idea.. Clubs around Seminyak seemed better than any I have been to in Thailand for music, the locals seem much more fashionable, bars around the Legian street (Bounty etc) all jumping..

Theres style around the Ku De Ta type places, beach and street entertainment on the legian beachfront area. Then theres midnight oil bars though I would agree that Kuta is now very over developed and maddening, but can be fun exploring, bamboo corner on Poppies for nice simple food that costs 1USD a meal..

Clothing better quality than Thailand for shopping.. Cost of living much cheaper. Food not as good as Thai but loads of great eats.. Sitting in the beach BBQ resturants for fresh grilled snapper and mudcrabs on Jimbaren beach.

Then you have the chilled greenery up in the Ubud region and the posh enclaves in Nusa dua... Sanur beach community seemed more laid back than the Kuta side but only looked around for a day or two. Lombok and across to the gillis is great fun also and a different vibe again. The gillis are a bit like the KPG party islands with mushroom milkshakes on the menu and some funny stoner indo staff. However tarawangen is getting over popular and rooms were hard to find and things a bit expensive compared to other of the three.

The country is a lot more screwed up with endemic corruption, police shakedowns, and screwed up services, basically its a lot more 3rd world than Phuket but then you can get a nice seaview beach villa etc for 200k USD and the same quality here would be well over 500k..

My little bro has a house just overlooking dreamlands beach and surfs the bukit region every day.. Hopefully I will spend a month or two a year down there. Sure if your looking for gogos then stick with Thai and PI but theres loads I like about bali despite its drawbacks.

I have been there 3 times and loved it. But the last time was just a week before the first bali bombing of the sari Club. A place i almost spended every night in when i was in kuta. After the bombing i realised that you could already feel the terrorist athmosphere when i was there. Now i do wanna go back sometime but at the moment the attraction is still gone.

But i am sure you will love it. have fun.

Loving Bali

Got to say..Im in Bali now and having visited Thailand for 5 years I must say that Bali beats Thailand hands down for prices. As for the girls there are more than enough to go around. The girls here seem a little prettier than thai girls and have a much better standard of English. When you can get a large Bintang beer for 30p and a girl for the night for 6 pound in Bali Im not complaining! The hawkers dont hassle you as much in Bali and the standard of the hotels and what you get for your money seems to be better too.No terrorist atmosphere here..unlike Bangkok either.

I'll still visit Thailand sometime in the future but I reckon Bali and Lombok are currently two of Asias best kept monging secrets.

Dont know about mongering on Lombok.. Seemed pretty anti the scene..

Agree with everything else tho.. Bali has its share of issues but is great and a fair bit cheaper than here.

Plenty around Bounty and the Legian Rd at night..

Seemed asking about 300k rups.. +- 30 USD.. Was with spinner so didnt see what the actual prices were..

From the whistles from the massage shops as you pass I suspect there was extras of some sort.. In the Kuta regions..

Have been in Bali also for about three times. Both in Sanur and Kuta. I also liked Lembongan. At present forget about Lombok. The local muslim population give us tourist a very hard time. For example, while drinking any alcohol.

Indeed most massage shops might offer all-inclusive services. Not only in Kuta, but also in Sanur. The last time, I was there last January and got offered many times: mister, mister, you like massage with extra? And when you then see their smiles....

Freelancer prices around Legian and Poppies backstreets are around 150 - 250,000 rupiahs for long time. Thats around 600 to 1000 baht for the Thai mongers. Any massage place will have girls that ofer the extras. Massages go for around 30-40000 Rp (200-250 baht). Also has some brothel housex if you know where to look e.g Blue music room cafe etc...

Still exploring and finding hidden delights everyday. I just cant spend my money here its sooo cheap!

I had a massage in Sanur that was squeeky clean, underwear strictly on. Saw no freelancers either.
Hounded to death both there and Kuta by people trying to sell watches/sunglasses etc.
