Question Where is Panthip

Whereabouts in BKK would you find Panthip Plaza ?

Heard all about the electro gear & reckon I could spend hours there ... is it a big place. I'm imagining a building with many levels & air-con ... hmmmnn

Yes I used the search function ... no address

It is basically between Siam Discovery and Central World but one major street up on that side. Walkable.

Make sure you say it more like "Pan Teeeap Plaaazzzaaa" or thai style so they know exactly what you are talking about. But the concierge at your hotel should be able to get the taxi dude on the right path for you.

No so much general electronics but more everything to do with computers.

You imagined correctly... I think there are 5 levels, IIRC.

I would only add that there is really not much organization to the place (i.e. software section, hardware section, computer games, repair, etc...). It's mish mash all over the place so shop around and compare prices.

You can take the SkyTrain BTS to Ploenchit and it's walkable from there.

Loads of junk to satisfy the ever discerning farang nerd

Ploenchit eh! That's great Biomech ... been through there plenty of times, so that means really it's not that far from Nana.

Never really thought of myself as a discerning farang nerd ... I like it,
much better than being a discerning farang turd ...

I'm pretty sure it's Chitlom stop rather than Ploenchit for the skytrain. It is a walkable distance but a sweaty one during the daytime. I wondering actually if it's not closer to the N1 stop on the other skytrain line if it's only Pantip you are going to.

Pantip Plaza - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does anyone know if there is a Dell outlet at Pantip? I can't remember. There website is crap and the telephone numbers don't work. Only other option is to try and import something from Singapore (but don't have a local number) or from over seas.

The closest stop is Ploenchit, right out the front of the Holiday Inn and Conrad hotel and the walk is easy as and when you walk over the bridge just past Central World there is a nice bar/restaurant down some steep stairs along the river where you can sink a few Singhas and watch the thais getting off the ferries. Very nice way to spend a before and after trip to Panthip

I like this one ... sounds great, think I can have a days outing here ... though I'm puzzled by the 'ferries', would that be the Klong San Sap where you'd find the ferries

Are the thais handing out mad arsed backwards skytrain maps to aussies as a joke? Sorry but I just can't understand how you guys are figuring ploenchit to be closer. Someone mentioned central world - well in order to get there you'd have to WALK PAST chitlom. I'd say you had the stops mixed up but then you mention the Holiday Inn...

Anyways may be a moot point as sanuk21 mentions in his post Ratchathewi that was the N1 stop I was thinking of and may technically be the closest, I think you would have to walk it to know for sure.

Ratchatewi is closest BTS stop to Panthip. It's a no brainer.

Chitlom would be second.

ATMWalking, i'm not sure if Dell has a dedicated outlet in Panthip, but they do have somewhere in bangkok, I can find out the details if you like.

I just walk from Ploenchit, through 2 different shopping centres that are inter-connected (sorry can't remember the names of them), then it's just a block or two from there. May not be the closest BTS stop, but it's air-conditioned walking through the shopping centres.

I suspect you walk from Chitlom doing that, there is no way to do that from Ploenchit

ATM

There is no Dell retail outlet in Bangkok, they do everything through direct sales, website orders. We have a rep that visits us and we buy bulk, so the prices are excellent e.g. the 22" TFT widescreen monitor costs us less that 12,000THB.

There are Dell items available throughout Panthip, just depends on what you want.
