Booking hotels-best way.

I will be arriving in bangkok on 30 april and will be a bit green.only been once for a couple of days and that was many years ago.
I'll be staying fo 11 days and want to visit pattaya and river kwai .i was hoping to overnight at river kwai area but reading the forum this may be a bit difficult.
Question is if i just book into the nana or maybe a hotel near soy cowboy for 3 days will i easily be able to book other nights from there.is there an agency that deals with this or will i have to do it on net(from cafe).
Any helpful people there around that time will be pleased to buy a couple of beers and tap you for info.
Which is the best sight to book hotel.
Thanks ,any info much appreciated.

Hi ally - the Nana has a booking agency but you will pay more thru them (as you will thru all of them).
However if you are not sure how long you will be in one place it might be the way to go - the other way is to search this forum for the names and locations of hotels on your trip and just rock up - end of April is the low season so you should have no trouble getting in 'off the street' as it were.

The best way to book hotels is on the 'net' - I always do and have never had any problems at all.

The Nana will book you in on the net without even sending a deposit, least they do for me, but others you usually have to pay in full before you arrive.

If you want to stay overnight in the river Kwai go to the booking agents advertised on this site and look for Kanchanburi. You can travel there by train slightly uncomforable or VIP bus which is comfortable from the southern bus station.

River Kwai is a good trip , try to ride the train over the river , nice trip thru the jungle ,on an antique train, long boat trips on the Ming [I think] river at River Kwai village resort [good place to stay] , vist to Hell fire pass and the Tiger temple is in the same area ,very interesting places. Might be an overnight and need of a guide. Some hotels will set this up for you thru agent in lobby.

nana hotel-is it really that dirty

was intending to book into the nana but have just been reading some reviews and most say the rooms are really dirty.is it really that bad .i'm not too fussy but hope to stay somewhere reasonably clean.
the idea of staying there is to meet some people and get good advice.any comments or recommendations .
any other hotels in 1200-1500 price range near nana or soi cowboy.

I've never had a problem with a dirty room in 6 visits there.If you're not too fussy(your words) you shouldn't mind it.IMHO
Heres' some pics of a standard room.
Of course it's always best to judge for yourself.

Hotels

If you book your first few nights in advance, you should be able to book the rest of your trip once you get to Thailand. Do a little homework and bookmark some on-line booking sites. Or, use the links on this site. Figure out where you want to go and book it from an Internet cafe. I've never had a bit of trouble booking online. It gives me a sense of security to know where I'm going.

This is very popular hotel to stay just around the corner from Nana, I have stayed there 6 or 7 times always clean and tidy never had a problem with a booking. Single is in your price range but most people book a double room current price is 1680Baht

Not that dirty...lack of paint rather here and there around the aircon outlet..
Thai owned unit since 1965...Stayed to many times on clinical 5 stars hotels
around the world where various ship owners picked up the tab....hate it..
This Nana has a soul and if walls could tell it would be a bestseller...
The latest are they trying to have families ( TAT quality tourists ) book with
them...well. well..remain to be seen
Rate is 1280...1165 after 15 days...and 1035 a month and plus
