Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn
I was researching budget hotels that are clean and GF during low season and saw this on this link. phuket-info.com - Bangkok hotels and resorts - Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn - Pictures and Facilities
Can any BM tell me about this place? I searched on here but couldn't find a thread covering it.
Price for double room, GF, proximity to major nightlife/shopping, distance from BKK new airport, safety and security, front desk friendliness, etc
I read the reviews on the site but just wanted another confirmation before I book online.
Thanks in advance, I'd appreciate any help. I'm a college student so I don't (i.e. can't) splurge like some of you fellas. Besides, I bet any 2 star hotel will be as good or better quality than college dorms
If you guys can recommend any other hotels under $30/night then that'd be cool too. I'm saving up for my stay in the PI so I don't wanna waste all my cash on a night in BKK.
Oh, I'm looking forward to contributing in the Philippines threads as I know the place very well. So help me, and I'll help you

Sawasdee runs a chain of budget hotels, they also have the Woraburi on Nana, which is more upscale and so is their hotel in Phuket. But mostly they have budget places, which are usually pretty decent. I stayed at one in Pattaya. Cheap and cheerful, I was quite happy with it and would stay there again. The only criticism I could make(other than could use a new coat of paint, TVs so-so, and sometimes a toilet will leak a little, none of which bothers me) is that if you are only there for one or two nights, the staff might seem a bit brusque, but once they've seen you a few times, then they are actually very nice. All in all it was quite nice for a budget price(nice pool, nice lobby, good elevators, nice restaurant, good view.
In BKK, I usually stay at the Honey Hotel on Soi 19. The staff is absolutley top-notch. Nice enough pool, too. The rooms are not large, and some need paint/wallpaper, but they put in new carpet which is very nice. It is about $30 per night, but they are usually booked up in advance.
I've also stayed at the Federal on Soi 11. Good staff, well run. Small rooms. May cost a little more than the Honey, hvaen't stayed there in a while, so can't say for sure. Very nice pool. The other places I've stayed in BKK aren't worth mentioning, except for one nice place on Soi 11, which I forget the name of.

If I have to live in a city, that is best to get away from the traffic noise! Plus the view is great! You can look down on babes swimming/sunbathing in the rooftop pools of some of the swanky hotels nearby(Presidente Grande?) Also, it was cheap, I think about 900 or 1000 Baht, IIRC.
I just remembered the name of the place, it's Bright City Tower. Here's the website: Bright City Tower

Thanks so much for the info. Looks like a great bargain.
I guess the only question left for me is: is it GF?
and how do I book? Do I just email them asking for an apt?

Totally GF. I found it one day when I was staying at a piece of crap hotel on Soi 19 (Sam's Lodge), and after one night there was desparate for anything cheap and decent. After getting shut out at the Honey, and several others, I went to the Federal. No luck there, either, but I saw this place a few doors away, and walked in and inquired. They asked how long I wanted it for. I don't think they wanted to rent for just one day, but I said two or three and they were OK with that. I ended up staying there for a week , cause I got a really horrible flu, the kind you feel like your insides are killing you and you're going to die. That studio was a really nice place to ride out the sickness, unitl I felt better. Since then, when in BKK, I have stayed at the Honey Hotel, because my buddy loves that place and it was cool to hang out with him.
So as far as booking, I don't know what is best. Maybe just phone them and ask. It is a lady and her daughter who run the place, and they were super nice, and spoke pretty good English, esp. the daughter.

I'm glad to hear its GF.
But I'm only staying for one night in BKK due to a layover, will they still allow me to stay?
I don't think I can call them since I'm not in the country, but I emailed them yesterday asking for a booking. I will wait for a response but if I don't get one I'll start looking elsewhere.
Do they do walk-ins?
