The place was crawling with off-duty cops, stayed open til 6am,was an all night *****-fest. apparently its even owned by cops.

When I last visited a village in Isaan, I was at a karaoke bar and one table was full of cops. It was amazing how the all wanted to come over to talk with the farang. I had no discomfort about their company.

my in laws are police through and through, but drinking with police in rural thailand i dont know, no way too dangerous.
there is many loose cannons, in the thai police, and they are not known for their restraint if they percieve they have been slighted.
in bkk, MIB would be the last lot i would want to drink with, i would rather sit at a ma + pa store, with a group of "normal" working thais than MIB.

did you understand what they were saying, before, during, and after they spoke to you ?
i tend to believe it would not be complimentary.

The conversations were extremely simple and limited as no one spoke decent English. Mainly my judgement is based on tone and body language.

I can think of no better reason to avoid any place.
I had a friend once who thought he was 'the man who could tame them'. Hung out with a group of cops and thought he was King. Despite some warning signs and my best advise, being a cop groupie was too appealing.
He regretted it and is no longer able to live in Thailand.

i am amazed with some farangs infatuation with hanging around the MIB.
trust them i wouldnt even want to talk to 95% of them.
they are so powerful in thailand, and a law unto themselves, yes it can help having connections with them, but how many farangs do we see who have a card from "pol-col, pol-major general ?
all those cards mean, unless they are close family to your wife, is it will cost you money or something later to fix the problem.
some are genuine good policeman, and i have never had problems with the ones i have dealt with, but as for socializing with MIB, who arent related or very very good friends of the family, no way.
drinking with the MIB is very close to selling your soul, if you keep doing it imho.
the little story of the club in bangla on the corner and the way it was shut down and what happened to the farang leaseholder, serves surely as a message.

I assume he's talking about spicy disco aka BOSS 2 in long muang. Half the time I was there in January the cops were raiding it and closing it down at 3 am. A lot of people would then move to BOSS (#1) owned by the same people. That got "raided" (never acutally saw a uniform present at either) while I was there also but they'd never do both on the same night.
