Apart form the luvvies ... what else recommended?
Hey all,
I am planning to hit BKK for approx 2 weeks perhaps in June .. wanting to pace myself (somewhat) I am looking for other things to do apart from monging ... can ye recommend things? ... ie: day trips / local temples / sights / blah ... I have to have some *ligit* photos to show the mammy when I get back so she still, thinks I'm number one son
thanks in advance!
Ratz.

Classic example of where a search could yield a lot of information. Try to type sightseeing in the search box or go to the Bangkok forum.

Have a search on the forum here.... Also I looked at websites like www.bangkok.com which give some good ideas on what to do when not mongering !! where to go etc etc.....
For tours have a look at www.nana-tour.com... Gives some ideas on tours, prices, info.....
Don't make huge plans of what you are going to do as it will all go out the window!! I had all these grand plans of what to do when I arrived.... They were all out the window as soon as I got off the plane!!!!!!
Another BM said to me.... 1st rule of Thailand ..... Don't make plans!

A riverboat tour is in order here. You can get some magnificent shots from the water if you are into photos to show mom...

If the price were lower, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Especially if you get a lighter one. Put it in the trunk and use it for bombing around Patong or Phuket Town. But for the same money, I could buy several new motorbikes. Holding for now.

For the family oriented pics I just usually scan websites and save those pics onto my computer......
Oh look this is the time I went to the aligator farm, orrrr check out this pic I got of the money eating the banana....Or well you get the point right.
I always wanted to check Ayutthaya though. But you can also find lots of pics of Ayutthaya on the web.

If your spending 2 weeks in Bangkok why not check out some of the towns outside also. Ayutthay, river Kwai Bridge in Kanchanaburi for example. I like Bangkok but find it's nice to get out after a little bit for something a little more relaxing.... Just another idea for you.

Doh!
know what, I tried searching for loads of terms but not the flipping obvious one "sightseeing" !!! ... thanking thee
... Seems there are mixed opinions here on the various places to visit - for those who have been there / done that, would I be better spending a few days hopping around various places (ie: Phuket / blah?) ... comments?
... getting more eager by the minute ...

Looking at the three most obvious destinations: Pattaya, Bangkok and Phuket there are some pluses and minuses. Here is my take (keep in mind that mongering is high on my list).
Pattaya is the best place to monger; without a doubt. On the other hand there is not much else to do there, unless you take excursions. Pattaya is also where the monger gets most for the baht. Even though there is a beach there it is hardly worth it to go see.
Bangkok has a great variety of options. Being the capitol there inherently are a number of related attractions, including the palaces and Wats. Shopping can be an experience in itself in Bangkok; from Chatuchak Weekend Market to the malls. Ton of great dining. Bangkok also feature all the traffic jams and smog you ever wanted.
Phuket is very laid back and there are many fantastic beaches. Patong features the nightlife of Phuket, but lacks the premier beach. It is a great combination of a family paradise and a fairly good place for adult fun. There are many options for excursions as well.
Where you spend you time and how much should depend on two factors. 1. Which are seems to suit you the best. 2. How well you deal with "moving around". Some people seriously dislike packing the suit case and move to another location/hotel; others (like myself) do not care. The time before my last when I went to LOS, I went straight for Pattaya for 5 nights, then to Phuket for 5 nights and finally to Bangkok for 3 nights. I found that to be a good combination. First 5 days to play hard, next 5 days to play in a lower gear and the a finale in Bangkok.
The opinion above is mine and may not be yours, but here you have it.

Thanks all! ... MrDK, super concise post ... do I assume it is internal flights between the locations or land? ... while I *do* plan to get in *some* touriesty time (with hopefully a pretty local) I aim to spend the majority of time sinning my way through LOS
cheers,
R.

To Phuket and back definitely fly. You can fly between Phuket and Pattaya, however, access to Pattaya airport is not the best and it is cheaper to fly to Bangkok.
Between Bangkok and Pattaya a taxi is your best option. From Bangkok to Patts figure in 1200 baht and reverse at 1000 baht. Some board members, including ego, have used the services of Mr. Toom. Tel +6601-4827148 , +6603-0178066 Email : toom39@msn.com. Very reliable. Will pick you up (meet and greet) at either Bangkok airport or any Bangkok hotel.
