Kanchanaburi (Tiger Temple) from BKK (day trip possible ?)
Im headed to BKK on the 21/22/23 of May and keen on the Tiger Temple. Is this achievable without too much of a strain ? Would I be able to spend enough time at the temple at get back to BKK the same night?
From the :: วัดป่าหลวงตาบัว *าณสัมปันโน จ.กา*จนบุรี - Tiger Temple, Thailand :: I understand that getting to the Temple itself would take about 4 hours.
1. Bus to Kanchanaburi from the Southern Bus Terminal (100thb ?) Takes about 3 hours. 2. From there take a taxi to the temple cost about 200-250 Baht, take about 30mins?
What about my return, will I run into any problems ? Im travelling alone.

Tiger Temple
I've been to The Tiger Temple on a day trip from BKK but I took an organised tour through a tour company. If you are travelling alone and time is limited you may be better off doing something similar. The trip icluded the war museum, cemetry and River Kwai Bridge. All up about 12 hours in duration. The Temple is a little way out of Kanchanuburri too so unless you are staying overnight in the area you may not fit it all in in one day if you intend to find your own way there.

My wife and I caught the bus from southern bus terminal (make sure you get the first class bus its quicker then got taxi from Kanchanaburi about 400 baht. Easy to do in a day we stopped everywhere and still got home about 6pm. Well worth the trip.

Yeah Im a foot soldier so this should not be a problem. I plan on doing what you did, taking a bus then a taxi. I just want to make sure I will have time to see the tigers and have a meal and get back to BKK without being stranded!!
What time was the first bus from the souther terminal ? I will either stay in sukhumvit(nana bts) or Ratchadapisek road. Undecided.

You'll struggle to do it all in a day......... I'd recommend staying in Kanchanaburi- great place.

I have been in Kanchanaburi during late March. I reckon it is a very nice place to spend a few days, I stayed in a small bungalow with a view on the Kwai river, really relaxing and cheap !!!
I also went to a disco in Kanchanaburi, in the town center, very nice, crowded and only ( I really mean only) thai people which was really great ! I had a great night out !

Yeah- go to some place called Glitzy- totally Thai disco. There's also one in the centre which we didnt go to cos the girls we were with said they beat up Farang who go there. Altho we were sure it was cos they had Thai boyfriends who go there- not cos it actually is dangerous.
Be careful tho in Glitzy- you dont wanna act like a prick. A couple of off-duty police about who we met, you dont wanna go acting up there as the only Farang- defo not like any kind of Patong/Pattaya place. That said, great night out and friendly people.

Yeah that's where I went to, Glitzy, nice disco. Of course you don't behave there like in Patong but I met some nice Thai guys there who were very friendly and surprised to see a farang alone. Many good looking girls but most of the time with their Thai friends so not so easy to pick up and also didn't want to get into trouble.

Bus per person 100 baht x2 = 200 baht
taxi 250 baht = 500 baht
enterance = 300 baht plus my personal donation i.e 300 baht
Food 300 baht max so total is 1500 baht maximum
2000 baht saving almost 30 pounds , plus i dnt have to listen to some crap from some tour guide lol!!

Went to the tiger temple last month as I was staying in Kanchanburi. Actually drove out there about 1pm and was confronted with hordes of tourists so I decided not to enter. There was a sign outside saying something about tiger cubs being fed or woken up at 10.30 so I decided to come back the next day. This proved to be a very good decision. The next day I got there early before the Bangkok brigade and as was able to see the younger tigers and cubs in their pens. The young Thai keepers then went about waking the Tigers and cubs and the few tourist who were there were able to interact with them. During this time older and a larger tigers were brought down to the pen area for patting and photos. All the while more and more tourists arrived. Just before 1pm I think they walked the largest tigers with groups of tourist down to the canyon area which I did and got a photo walking with one of the big tigers. By this time there where a lot of tourists, it was stinking hot and very bright with no shade so I decided to go as we'd had about 4 hours with the tigers already . On the way out more people were arriving. It Was a highlight for myself and my TGF and definitely better to get there early if possible.

I went last year. The biggest cat was totally out of it. He was laying on his side. They would pull his head up like a carpet and push you down where his head was and then place his head in your lap for photos.
There were two other big cats that were sitting together on a boulder and you could sit behind them for a photo. They were very well behaved.

55555 I dont know. The younger tigers were all asleep when i got there. One of the female keepers(no the other sort of female keeper) got into the pens to gently wake them. They didn't looked drugged at all. They are nocturnal after all. As for the larger Tigers they didn't seem to me to be sedated but I'm not an expert. There are western volunteers there, I'd like to think they'd spill the beans if the tigers were being doped.
speaking of which..............
what do you call a group of maori's on prozac?
ONCE were WORRIERS

I dont know either but from what Iv understood of the place the tigers have been bred in those settings and have never had to hunt instinctively for food. And if they haven't acquired the taste for human blood then they probably dont know if they are missing something or not

i was at the Phuket Zoo and it was horrible how sedated the big tiger was
it was right after tsunami and one of the coolest things i ever got to do was play with 2 tiger cubs by myself for about 30 minutes
it was awesome!!
