Guest Friendly on the Suk, Budget to ****

Here are some suggestions for hotels in the Bangkok Sukhumvit area, ranging from budget to four-star. The smaller budget ones are clean , secure and you can get nice rooms for between 1,400 baht and about 2,000 baht, depending on the type of room and hotel. It's by no means an exhaustive or definite list, there are many more guest friendly hotels in all price ranges in the Suk area.

Because I have included the links, I'm not going to write in detail about each hotel. The Royal Ivory is down the street from the Nana Hotel and NEP, while the Ever Rich Inn is between Suk Soi 5 and Soi 7 and the Stable Lodge is on Soi 8. The others are farther away ( on Soi 19, Soi 18 and Soi 33, respectively), but still within easy BTS or taxi distance of NEP and walking distance to Soi Cowboy.

If you just use your hotel room for a few hours sleep and to screw, you're probably better off at the Nana, Majestic Suites or Manhattan (assuming you can get a room, sometimes difficult these days). But if you want a room to chill out in for a few hours a day, some of the smaller hotels offer better value for money. I had a big room with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave) at the Royal Ivory Nana for 1,800 baht/night. I used it for a party with five ladies, even though I had a room at a five-star hotel. It wasn't convenient to bring back five ladies to that room because I had colleagues staying at the same hotel. Besides, the ladies and I had a lot of fun cooking dinner together.

If you want something a bit more comfortable, you can book a jacuzzi suite at the Town Lodge (3,200b/night) or Livingstones (4,000b/night).

Royal Ivory Nana
Ever Rich Inn
Stable Lodge
Swiss Grottino
Town Lodge
Livingstones

The following is a booking agency that specializes in budget accommodation and can often find you a room when others can't.

Thai Hotel Discounts

If you are in Bangkok on business or prefer a larger full-service hotel, the "Big Three" guest friendly hotels in the Sukhumvit area are the Sheraton Grande, JW Marriott and the Westin. The Landmark has always been guest friendly in my experience, but there are mixed reports. These hotels will run you anywhere from $120 to $180 and more, depending on what kind of discount rate you're entitled to or if you catch a promotional price.

Other upscale choices include:

President Solitaire
A bit out of the way on Soi 11, but absolutely no problem to get a taxi day or night. However, if I couldn't get a Platinum Suite with giant jacuzzi and kitchen (5,100B/night), I doubt I'd want to stay at the PS.

Emporium Suites
Great swimming pool, well-equiped kitchen, right at Emporium shopping center and BTS station.

Davis Hotel
Again, a bit out of the way, but huge value for money. Always a special rate is available.

Dream Hotel Bangkok
The coolest hotel in BKK, opened in October, but was overpriced by about 100%. I just heard the hotel may be cutting prices because of low occupancy. Check the Web site for the latest news. All the TGs loved the Dream Suite (about $300 U.S./night- company paid). Several called relatives/friends just to come look at the suite.

I use Thai Hotel Discounts for hotels in BKK! They seem to offer the best rates.

Superior Single at Majestic Suites is 1242 baht with them
I am also booking 2 night at Town Lodge. 1332 Baht for Deluxe with Bath where Town Lodge charge 1600 baht for same room!

Thank you for the hotel list. Nice addition to the traditional lists often referenced on this board.

I have heard only good things about Town Lodge on Sukhumvit Soi 18. A bit off the main road but apart from that looks nice.

Will be staying there at the end of my vacation and will write a report once back!!!

It is definitely GF. I came back with three ladies, none of which was registered and one so drunk she literally had to be carried to the room. The hotel staff only smiled and asked if I needed help. I'd arranged with them for a multiple session and the two who remained (relatively) sober insisted their almost unconscious friend be taken to my hotel and not dropped off at her room. I thought that would be the acid test of guest friendliness, but the front desk at the Dream didn't bat an eye.

No Majestic Grande? Stayed at the Davis last trip and thought the MG would be a good alternative to make up for the location. I hope it works out because I just booked it. BTW - I loved the Davis rooftop pool. If anyone here ever stays at the Davis, just make sure you get the main building as opposed to the corner wing.

Good first thread I think I've seen you on other forums as a more or less identical post came up in a search I did looking for the Ever Rich Inn. I've walked past that place so many times and kept meaning to go in for a look, I'm big on location when it comes to hotels and that'a about as good as you can get. I stayed at Park Hotel on soi 7 for a few nights last time but won't be going there again so this seems a good option for a few nights trial at least, I'm wondering if it's not overpriced by 100 baht or so though.

One of the things I find importants about hotels, other than being GF and no joiner fee, is their willingness to make up the room more than once per day (make med and bath after ST to be ready for LT)

Last time I stayed at Dynasty Grande and there was never a problem. One afternoon I asked for 8 towels for the night, but they had a limit of 6. That was easily overcome with 100 baht to the cleaning lady.

They are very different types of hotels, but the standard of the rooms is quite similar. If you just compare them room to room (furnishings, bed, decor, TV and audio, bathroom, etc.) then the Dream is certainly at least on par with the Majestic Grande, maybe even a bit more luxurious. The rooms at the Dream have much better entertainment systems (TV and audio). The bar and restaurant at the Dream are impressive ( cool, dude, cool!), although the prices are very high (350 baht for a cocktail).

However, the Dream is a much smaller hotel (100 guest rooms on six floors), while the Majestic Grande has 250 rooms in a sky-scraper type building (25 floors at least). It has a swimming pool and other facilities the Dream doesn't. You have much better views of the city from the windows of the MG than the Dream. The prices are roughly compatible for each room category, although that will depend on what sort of deal you can swing via a booking agency or coporate discount.

Here's the breakdown of room types for the MG:

Grande Superior (28 sq.m.)
Grande Premier (35 sq.m.)
Grande Deluxe (40 sq.m.)
Grande Executive Suite (65 sq.m.)
Grande Wonder Suite (70 sq.m.)
Majestic Grande Suite (240 sq.m.)

And for the Dream:
Classic Room (31 sq.m.)
Deluxe Room (35 sq.m.)
Junior Suite (60 sq.m.)
Dream Suite (65 sq.m.)

So it depends what you want and value most. If a pool is a must for you, then it's the MG. But if you only want to impress the ladies with a cool room, you might think about the Dream. It also depends how much value being right at the heart of Nana area - the MG wins. As always, up to you.

Keep in mind each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Not all the rooms at the Ever Rich have windows. That doesn't bother some people, others consider it a major downer. In terms of location on the lower Suk, it can't be beaten for the price.

The location of the Town Lodge is good for Cowboy or Soi 33, not so convenient for NEP but not hugely out of the way, either. The hotel has free tuk-tuk service to the Asok BTS station and a cab will take to Nana for 40 baht. Also, the Town Lodge is super guest friendly (the staff has a positive attitude towards guests' guests, not just tolerates them) and has a nice bar connected to the lobby (Toxic, it's called). The owner of Toxic is a very good guy and extremely knowledgeable about BKK nightlife, so are the ex-pats who hang there. If you stay at TL, say hello to him - and the girls in the bar - from Evil. They know me well.

But if you're not traveling heavy, why not try both the Ever Rich and the TL? I imagine it's not problem getting rooms in low season.

Hey Evil

Thanks for the info.. I looked at Ever Rich and they ask for your CC details on their website and the webpage is not secured! Not very happy with that so I am booking TL. I nearly stayed their last vacation but went to Patts instead.

The walk Cowboy to Nana took me about 10 mins so not too bad. I am staying at Majestic for the 1st 3 nights of hols so might be nice to be closer to Cowboy at the end.

Good info though... Cheers!

Under 1,000 baht/night

The following are very low cost hotels under 1,000 baht/night. All but one are in the Suk area. They aren't hotels where I would stay more than one night, but that is what some punters need or want - a very cheap place for a short stay.

Here's a very basic, but clean, no-roach hotel with A/C at 700B/night, close to Nana: Thai House Inn

An even cheaper place is NumberOne Guest House Trivia Question: Why does this place occupy a special place in the history of Bangkok P4P? It will be fun to see if any "veterans" get the answer right.

Not the best location, but very low price: Honey Hotel

Way outside the Suk area, but great value for money under 650B/night. Taxi/moto will get you to the lower Suk. The colorfully named NasaVegasHotel

I've never stayed at this place, but I got a tip that is very good value for money at under 1,000B/night for a room. Here's the link: NAP-Inn

Evil, good to have a reference list for inexpensive hotels. Often I need one for 1/2 day where I will arrive BKK early afternoon and have a past-midnight flight. A place to put you luggage, briefcase and one or two ST.

I often arrive in LOS on the midnight flights and use one of the cheap hotels for the first "half night." Same same for the final night if I'm leaving on the 6.00 a.m. flight. I'll depart for the airport at 2.30 a.m., but nice to have a room in which to shower and change clothes just before that.

I don't know about the gym at the Dream. There is one, but I can't offer an opinion as to how good/bad it is. Sorry.

I stayed at the majestic grande very recently (we had a Grande Deluxe room) and have to say that this hotel rocks.
Our room was on the 16th floor and the view on BKK after 7pm was just stunning.
Great buffet brekkie to be had. We never had dinner there but the restaurant looks very nice.
Swimming pool (with jacuzzi) outdoors on the 7th floor.... it was almost worth the trip in itself
Being a fat bastard I didn't take advantage of the nice gym that they have.

The only bad thing I can say about this hotel is that the taxi sharks outside the hotel are a bunch of rip-off merchants. Avoid them like the plague. Just walk approx. 100 metres to the crossing of Soi 2 and Sukhumvit Rd. and hail a metered taxi or a tuk-tuk.

Great contribution here. A good list of hotels. Just stayed at the Nana hotel for the first time. Looks like they are doing some redecoration there, well at least on the higher levels. You can get a spacious room there in LOW season for 1690 baht a night. That was a superior room, but the normal rooms are fine. But as already stated if you want this hotel you have to book in advance....

I stayed here for just under a week, just got back from LOS infact.
Small rooms + Shower, but my room was clean and well kept.

Staff dont really bother about guests. Puts you literally in the heart of action

It tends to get a little noisy sometime, or maybe it was because my room was on the road.

No complaints though, for the price its a dream. Hope they maintain it!

I use this crowd to book hotels in BKK for business and holidays.

Hotels in Asia - Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore Hotels & More…

The advantage (to me anyway) is the fact that they have live chat, so if the hotel you want is full you can deal with it in real time.

Always worked for me.

Several more moderately priced (1,400B to 2,100B night) GF hotels in the Suk area:

The City Lodge has hotels on Soi 9 and Soi 19.

City Lodge

The Swiss Park is located on Soi 13, although the taxi will turn in on Soi 11.

Swiss Park Hotel

I don't have personal experience of the hotel below, but a friend recommends it. An older hotel has been rennovated and reincarnated as the Unico Grande. Some cheap "opening" specials are available.

I looked into the Unico Grande they have a special price on hotels for the summer and the rooms look great. I confirmed with the hotel about gf status and any contruction. They do have construction on the 6th and 7th floor, and it's about a 20 strory building, so as long as you're not on the 5th or 8th floor should be alright. And rough translation from the hotel sounds like as long as you don't organize an all out orgy in your room they are gf.

I found Le Fenix hotel over on Soi 9 near the Q, it's a new hotel, trendy inexpensive rooms. I'm waiting on an email of the gf status on them. Looks like any woman you bring back to the Fenix would enjoy it. Looks like Chicago's Contemporary Art Institute in hotel form.

I stayed at Le Fenix last week, but just for one night to test it. It offered a very low rate - 1,962 baht for double occupancy, no breakfast included. Exceptional value for money for the class and style of the hotel. Here's the link to the hotel:
Le Fenix

Another BKK hotel chain (actually serviced apartments) that is currently offering very good rates is the Centrepoint chain with seven locations in the city. I stayed at Centrepoint Wireless, which isn't the most convenient location in the city, even though it isn't far from the Suk nightlife area. I got a spacious room (42 sq m, if I remember) with a kitchen nook for 2,200 baht a night.

Le Fenix is definitely guest-friendly, but since the rooms aren't that large (although quite spacious), it isn't too suitable for orgy-style parties. Same-same for the Centrepoint.
