If you are there at the Weekend check out Chatuchak Weekend Market
A big market selling all sorts of Gear... Just get the skytrain (Sukhumvit line North) and get off at the last stop, Mo Chit... You can't miss it....
Worth a look for a few hours....
As was said Chinatown is worth a look too... Its Intense but well worth a ramble around....

Agree with Pad Mc. Go there early(ish) in the morning. Open Sat/Sun 0800-1800.
An alternative way to getting there is MRT (underground). MRT is A/C and more comfortable. Take it north towards Bang Sue and get off Chatuchak Part (Mo Chit Connection).

I like the Buddha Market (if that's what it's called) during the day.
It's near the Flower Market area and near the Grand Palace.
It's along the River. Not sure what stop.
There are people selling those little Buddha's that are in the the silver casings on the siewalk. You wear them on a necklace. There are all kinds of medals and animal teeth and claws.
There is also an old mall that sells a larger stock of Buddha stuff. I think the Thai collect and trade these medals like Baseball cards or vintage comic books. Some of these Medals have inscriptions and are more authentic than others.
And there are restaurants.
At 3pm the food carts come out and the food is great.
I really like the vibe there.
I've never seen it mentioned on this site and don't know exactly what it's called or the exact directions to get there. I ususally tell the cabbie the Buddha Market but i think it's called something else.
Anyone else been there?

go with you dupree on that little market, nice to relax around there after the temple and palace tour.
selling all sorts of teeth and bhuddas aplenty, cheap beer, cheap food, and haircut for 60 baht.
its a taste of thailand, so close to tourist things, but so thai its great.
also one of the uni campuses nearby, so some top-notch eye candy to look at when they charge out for lunch time.
i think the bms have just about covered the things to do in bkk, the zoo is good for a day out, cheap for the taxi ride and 100 baht admission.

i forgot the "colusseum" at thong lor, great night out, cheap for a night out and if you have a tg/bg in tow she will love it.
its all in thai, so prepare to understand little, but great people watching, the cute and demure thai office girls, getting drunk on 3 beers or 2 breezers and thais in general relaxing.

Anyway, touristy stuff that hasn't been mentioned....
I quite like visiting temples, although I'm not Buddhist (much to my mum's dismay), I find their architecture totally unique and totally alien to anything you'll see in the West. It's truly breath taking the detail that goes into building a temple.

I have lots of little Thai objet D'art + lacquerware from that market.....a great night out.....good for eating, entertainment on the big stage and some mighty good quality craft at reasonable prices
Jim Thompson's original thai teak house is also well worth a vist for architectuarl/historical reference....its down by a canal not far from Siam Square

The newer mega shopping centers probably qualify as tourist attractions. There are a couple that have water parks on the roof and Aquariums in the basement with several floors of entertainment in between.

Hey dawsey - ;-)
Only one post out of the conform ones ;-)
Thanks ;-)
I recommend the nightmarkets in BKK!
And after this a nice show roughly closed to the market.
Also visit in daytime the swimmingpool of the Oriental!
I did this at my 1st trip to BKK although I had no rom at the Oriental :-D:
I just walked inside and got greetings from the stuff - smile.
Walked on to the swimmingpool and stayed there the whole day.
LOL - what a lough!
They offered me nice stuff - but as a not so richy backpacker I had not so much to pay - although if I see it today - it was really cheap.
At the evening I left. Great day!
And nobody rec that I am not a guest from this upperclass one.
Years after I visited as a regular guest (legal :-)) the Oriental again and had nice rememberings on my 1st visit!
Give it a GO!
It`s FUN !!

Loads to do -
River Trip - just as well to get the regular boats, Skytrain to Saphin Taskin then get the boat to the Royal Palace stop - 10 baht ish.
Dusit Zoo - actually a very good zoo especially for for turtles and snakes - snake feeding time seems to be 1530-1600ish - live mice and chicks put in with them, great to watch Entry 100baht Farang, 50 baht Thai - good place to take a girl.
Weekend market - as previously recommended
Pratanum clothing market - good place to buy clothes, have them adjusted, etc - if I have trousers to be taken up I save them and have it done here.
Unusual massages - I like visiting both Akane and Sazanka for semi-sexual massages - neither are full service but provide something that's a bit different

thats what i was told anyway.
yea i was hoping for a visit there too now. anyway, on a sidenote, if u go to pattaya visit xyte, its a similar thing ( at least it was in 2004 )
