I was there this year for just a short time. Sukhumvit - Soi 4 is clazy (and fun). The rest of the area seemed to be business as usual. I camped out at Dynasty Grande and could take Soi 6 to Sukhumvit without getting wet. Soi 7 and 7/1 was normal, but don't know about the others.

If you want a chance to get in and out of your hotel dry; stay away from Soi 4 (Soi Nana).

I make sure I take a holiday outside Thailand at Songkran.

Used to be a nice festival, now it's just a free for all dominated by idiots of both types.

I agree with both posts.

It is all how you see it and choose/like to play along. For most the first Songkran is a good amount of fun. Just be prepared to be drenched in water at any given moment (sometimes ice cold). That includes keeping phone, money and camera in bags.

I experienced Songkran for the first time this year in a village and had a great amount of fun. I can see, however, that it can grow old after a couple of trips.

Go and have fun.

You will have a great time if you are 19.

I would advise you to be careful who you soak though, keep to people in the game. A fist in the face is a possiblity if you pick on the wrong people.

There are rules of etiquette that they are trying to enforce each year. Stick to the designated areas and you'll be fine.

The reason I leave is because I don't choose to be in the game (in bangkok) and there's no point getting annoyed about it, just allow people who want to enjoy it do so.

In remote areas it's a totally different kettle of fish and I still enjoy going to a village where no one would dare soak me without permission.

Go for it - have a blast - around Nana will many be other farangs and BG's so not 'authentic' but sure you will enjoy it. For the most 'full on' Songkran experience go to Chiang Mai.

Was in Bkk 2 years ago for songkran, Soi Cowboy is the place to go for a good waterfight in the afternoon bars tend to stop the fighting in the evening.

I never joined in but got soaked a few times just walking down the street, not a lot of fun as its not just a splash its a bucket of water all over you If your out for an evening then its back the hotel to change.

Good fun if your up for it, but a pain in the a$$ if your out for a few quiet beers.

I won't return for songkran
