Hi
There are three Marriotts in BKK. The one on Sukumvit is JW Marriott. I stayed there recently. Beautiful hotel, excellent service. Rooms are a little small but if only for 2 nites that should not be a problem. Location is probably the bset in BKK for what you want to do. I think it slightly pips the Holiday Inn at the post. Drinks are expensive in the bar, pleanty of nice bars nearby. If you like meat, the steakhouse in the hotel is top class. Best steak I have ever had.
They also hava the "Bangkok Baking Company". Great for light meals and snacks.
Enjoy your trip

As I read in another thread, you're going with your wife ...
If the Marriott in question is the J.W. then go for it - the other one isn't as good.
Never stayed in the Holiday Inn near Sukhumvit but the Silom one is pretty dire.
I'd recommend that around the same price level you look at serviced apartments, I often stay at the Somerset Suwan Park View and can highly recommend it for both facilities and location, there are many others to choose from also.

The rooms in the JW Marriot are nice but in my humble opinion not all that , other alternative nearby is the majestic grande and for the same price about 7000 baht per night u can stay in a room about 70 sq m in size .
Alternativly there is the grand sukumvit in soi 6 which has excellent rooms .
But the Jw is not a bad choice at all, i personally would not pay thier rates though

Serviced apartment you can stay in a 100sqm room for around 3500baht .....
Majestic Grande, while good, isn't in the same league and has a far higher number of blokes with ******s which is probably not a good thing if with wife ...

I reckon the JW also has a far amount of men taking back women as well, its in such close proximity to nana so its inevitable . I doubt there that much difference in those terms . Although the JW has a bigger business crowd , what you think these guys get up to after business is done and dusted ? I wonder...
Jw is a better hotel , but at 7000 baht per night u would expect so !
As i said B4 in a previous thread IMO the Grand Sukumvit had the nicest rooms very nicely designed , and very well presented , very much on the level of the JW

the reasons that several ppl mentioned earlier business crowd (but this will be on the weekend ... well partly so it should be pretty becent, i was lookng at the LUXX seems very nice but a lil far away not on sukh, and with the wife shopping i dont wanna lug it back to the hotel and then travel again to a bar and then travel back so a hotel on sukh was the only choice as from what i hear it is where all the action is but will definitely look at the grand sukh as tas1 mentioned.... what is a good place to go with the wifey , i know the steak house at the marriott the roof top restaurant the name starts with the S what else ....
Yup it is the JW.... The price I am getting online is a lil under 7000 THB with all taxes etc...

If you fly with Thai ask their hotel prices as they can provide you with a booking through Royal Orchid Holidays. About the cheapest I found.

You have to ask Thai International or in the travel agency where you book your tickets.
Royal Orchid Holidays

You might want to look at the Grande Dynasty on Soi 6. Nice new hotel for a fraction of the price of the JW. About 2000 THB low season I think. Website is here - :: Welcome to Thailand, Welcome to Dynasty Inn::. If you are intent on spending that sort of money there is also the Sheraton and the Westin - both near Suk Soi 19. Both very nice hotels with walkways to the BTS and underground train.

I always stay at the JW Marriott, very nice hotel, good location and if you can blag a free upgrade to an Executive room the free breakfast and free drinks in the evening make the stay even more enjoyable. Also the buffet there is first rate as is the JW Steakhouse (but that is EXPENSIVE!).
Regards
John

The JW Marriott is a good hotel. The remodeled rooms are nice. You don't hear your neighbors. Close to the sky train. good internet. free printing in the business center. starbucks across the street. Very close to the highway for easy airport access.

I spent about 75 GBP (just over 5,000 THB) on a pre dinner drink, Caesar Salad, a bottle of very nice Aussie Red a couple of side dishes and a sublime 16 ounce New York Strip. Thanks to my company for a very nice meal
