The Promenade Hotel Sukhumvit soi 8
Hey guys!
I've been to LOS loads of times and I like to stay at a different hotel each time, it gets boring otherwise, I'll be in Bangkok 30/09-04/10, I'm thinking about The Promenade Hotel on Sukhumvit soi 8 but I can't find any reviews for it on the net! Anyone stayed there? What's it like?
Also, I'd like to recommend the Chatra court hotel on Suk soi 19, 1,350 THB if you book through atsiam.com, it's a bit far down the soi but it's GF, rooms are big apartment style with kitchen area, it's clean and the the guys that run it are great! And if you like soi cowboy then it's only a 15 min walk from this hotel to cowboy, and about the same to Asoke BTS.

Have a look at this one.... found after I booked Majestic Suites. Close to Soi Cowboy and rooms look awesome! I emailed hotel and they are GF also! Next time I book here. More expensive than I usually pay but it looks worth it!
Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit 16

I walk down Soi 8 most days and haven't noticed this one. It might me the one right on Sukhumvit above the tailors shop. If so it is possibly noisy. Will check it out later today and update.
Cheers,

Hey Skippy
The Promenade is quite far down soi 8, I checked it out when I was in Bkk in April but there was only one man on reception so couldn't take a look at a room but the lobby looked good, it's 1200 THB a night if you pay cash and 1300 if you pay by card! If you walk down soi 8 away from Suk, there's a small soi on the right with lolitas bj bar, then there's a beer bar on the left, then a big serviced apartment block on the right then the Promenade on the right just after it (if my memory serves me)
Sarsbuk
Citadines looks lovely but just over 2000 THB is a bit more than I like to pay, I don't spend much time in my room while I'm on holiday, I'm usually out all day and most of the night so I don't see the point of spending a lot of money on a hotel room!
Around Sukhumvit I've stayed at, Dynasty inn, Nana hotel, Majestic suites, Grand bussiness inn but I find the Chatra court on soi 19 the best allround, I've stayed there quite a few times!

There's a Citadines apartment hotel opening on soi 11 early next year, I checked some reviews on the net about Citadines soi 16 and out of 24 reviews I found 24 people loved it, everyone raved about it! I'm having second thoughts, 2000 THB looks a great price!

Fastphil is correct with his location....another hotel Stable Lodge is almost directly opposite the Promenade....it is only a short walk to Sukhumvit and the Skytrain escalator to Nana Station is two steps down Suk after you turn left from Soi 8.
I posted about the Promenade on another forum as the wife and I stayed there regularly a bit over a year ago - it was 1000 baht a night cash then and you could always get a room - clean and tidy, guest friendly and never likely to see the 3.5 stars of its heyday again. In the words of others - a bit of a dump - but a well-located dump. The bar restaurant directly across the road had a great breakfast deal and was a good place for a first and last drink when on the town. Enjoy.

When I was looking before they had an introduction rate of 1625 THB a night exc VAT and service charge which seemed worth it!!
Did not realise rates had gone up!!
Shame because the place looks really nice!

Found the other site....this guy's report is from May this year 2007
"If anyone is still reading this I think it's unanimous that this place is a dump. The bed is too low to the floor, which is important because the carpet is funky as hell. I'm talking shag carpet installed in the 60s.
To quantify this, I'm one person who doesn't think Nana is a dump, just on the old side. So when I think a place is a dump, it probably is. I checked out after the first night too.
At a certain point saving money becomes wasting the money you do spend. The Promenade is this point.
This is the place where you get a room to keep your luggage in and bring a beer garden girl to for ST if you have a late night flight out and you don't want to pay for a full night elsewhere."
....Even though I like the Promenade I'd say this is a fair description of it....if you stay there only book the first night and then do a deal for cash if you decide to stay. enjoy.

Minder, thanks for the info, I'll give the promenade hotel a miss and look elsewhere!
Sarsbuk and erik1, Citadine bangkok hotel special introductry rate is 1625 THB +12% tax but only until 30/09/2007
After that it's 2080 THB + 12% tax, which is a special rate for Citibank card holders only, if you're not lucky enough to have a Citibank card then it's 2375 THB a night, + 12% tax! Which is deffinatly too much for me!

Decided to stay at the Dynsty inn, it's not perfect but I've stayed there a few times before and the rooms in the new wing are not too bad and the location is spot on, also, they do a transfer to Pattaya for 500 THB.
