Bangkok to Pattaya
hi all, time is getting closer, now 5 odd weeks to go. Spending 2 weeks in Bangkok but fancy 4 or 5 days in Pattaya. Which would be the best mode of transport and price? also would it be advisable to book accomodation or can i just walk in on spec and get a room(will go there about 26th oct) Any advice would be gratefully recieved by a complete and utter novice.

The best way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya is Taxi.
Personally I would book accommodations in advance. In October there certainly will be rooms available, however, there will also be hotels that are sold out. I would hate to spend my time looking for a hotel once there.

First piece of advice use the search engine dude this stuff has been covered dozens of times over.
To quickly answer your questions - Taxi; no need to book but do it anyway it's cheaper plus you need to know things about the place in advance (eg distance from nightlife areas, whether they are guest friendly, etc)

By all accounts you spend the first hour just getting out of BKK for all the frequent station stops. Overall journey by train is longer than by road so yeah score one for it being a waste of time.

COUPERMAN
dont even think about the train mate it takes 5 hours and stops everywhere and even when it reaches pattaya it drops you off on the sukhumvit road which means you still need a taxi into town . taxi just over 2 hours except on fridays/saturdays when the bangkok people head for patts it could take 4 hours then because of traffic congestion.
same with huahin train takes nearly 6 hours taxi takes 2 hours 30 mins
