Ever Bump into someone from home in bkk?
Just wondering if anyone has run into someone from home whilst out and about or in a bar?
An ex girl friend on holidays, your boss, neighbour, a relative backpacking or someone staying at your hotel(this would suck). During my recent vist I had the feeling this was going to happen but it never did but I'm sure its happened to plently of other people.

if anything i would be excited to see someone from home halfway across the world
not really the same, but i have had numerous convos with guys i have seen with Red Sox hats on(my favorite baseball team from States)
that is usually pretty cool

I don't know if I would care. That would depend on the person and circumstances I suppose. There were a few western girls in some on the go-gos I visted, not sure I'd want my cousin to happen upon me in such a place for example. Some people must have some comical stories though.

can see your point. and to be honest I would feel unconfortable with it. then again would you wonder what your cousin's doing in a go go, or such a place.
I would.

Not quite the same either but I bumped into a guy who used to go to the same school as me and another time a couple in hua hin who live about 1/2 a mile away back home. So these sort of coincidences do happen. As for boss, neighbour, relative, etc if they're close enough to you for it to matter being seen you & they probably know about your respective planned trips.

I was walking down bangla 2 trips ago when i thought i heard someone shout my nickname from school days, thought i was hearing things so just walked on but turned out it was a boy i sometimes drink with in Scotland, was really pleased to see him and be able to show him around.
Other than that i have bumped into many people from within 15 miles of where i live, mostly older retired guys, but i love it, talking about the old fishing villages, and pretty much every time it will turn out that you know a few of the same people.
Another time i was in Equatorial Guinea, thousands of miles away from home, in a bar and in walks a boy 2 years older but from the same school, i was delighted to see him, he said "alright" then just walked off, well he can just GTF.

Sorry, this wasn't in Bangkok or even Thailand, but a story I will share.
In 2002, I decided at the about a week before the game to go to Spain and watch Barcelona V Athletico Madrid. I took an EasyJet flight out of Luton, and behind me a check-in a guy I went to school with wasthere. He checked in and we talked about why we were going. Snap... Funnily we were on the same flight back to Luton.

My first solo trip to Patong via Bkk.....was collecting my bags at Bkk to make my way to the domestic terminal at Don Muang.
l saw a guy l knew from my local football club and the local hotel....a real character.....l remember him asking me where l was off to and he mentioned he goes to Pattaya.....well l had never heard of this Pattaya.
He also said he was there to sit on the doorstep of the Oz Embassy until he gets a Visa for his Tgf and her kids.
Well about a year and a half after that l am driving my car out of the underground parking lot at work.......who should walk right in front of me......same guy, thai bird and 2 kids.

Again not related to Thailand but still a funny story.... back in UK 2001 i had the urge one day to visit this seedy massage parlour in town. Everyone knew about it but no-one talked about it.
Anyway cut a long story short after my rub and tug i went down the back stair case when who should be coming up the stairs but my best mates dad !!!
They're one of these families where butter wouldn't melt and they've been married for over 40 years, very prim and proper. Well the look on Jim's face was absolute horror, embarassed and guilt all rolled into one.
Then came the classic excuse, he said someone had told him the Massage had closed a while back and that it was now an Indian restaurant, i mean who goes for an Indian at 2.30 in the afternoon!!
Anyway we went for a beer after and laughed about it, then made a pact that it would stay our secret. I must say he had a lot more to lose than i did !!!

This summer i worked at a Modern dance festival in Stockholm.
One day a guy came backstage to empty the toilettes and started to talk..
He started to talk about him going to the Phillipines and i said i prefered Thailand. He then said he knew a guy living a bit up noth in sweden that had a brother that lived outside Stockholm, and his son had a bar in Thailand..
Yep.. Its Nicke he was talking about....
He said he was a friend to Nickes uncle...
Small world...

Few years ago sat in PlaySchool GoGo (in Patong) kept noticing a guy sat in the corner with a girl in his lap but being quite dark it didn't register who he was till he got up to go...was an Inspector in the CID who came to my house back in the UK after I was burgled who had given me a b@llocking for leaving the house unlocked.
Another happened last year. I was on a Phuket-BKK flight, Thai Airbus....looked across the aisle and on the far side was my mothers' cousin and his wife....not only on the same plane but also in the exact same Row39 as me and also on the same flights as me BKK-London and on to Guernsey!

Did not get to meet, but went to Patong & Phi Phi just before the Tsunami and had a great time. Did not know at the time that a mate of mine who I have not seen since I left the UK 26 years ago has a bar very close to the MTB.
Have not been back yet (still has the bar), but another mate from Perth and some mates from the UK suprised him on their way back to the UK 2 years ago.
Silly thing was, once I found out where the bar was, I probably walked past it every night I was out there.
My GF at the time (Irish) and the guy (John I Think) that run the Blarney Stone in Bangala Rd used to live up road from him in Dublin.
Had a huge night there they day before we went to Phi Phi, She was not to good on the boat after many large Jamesons the night before.

Hi IJ
If you had let them know you saw them(especially if they were not supposed to be there, it may well help future pay reviews and possibly terms and conditions at work. You might even end up being able to go to LOS five times a year.
