In another thread I made a couple of references to the entertainment area around Ratchadapisek Road, and Mai Chop suggested that I open a thread and give some insight information. Truthfully, I do not have that much information, however, compared to those who have none ... at least that barely qualifies me to start the thread. Perhaps others may have more and better information and can add.
The entertainment area of Ratchadapisek Rd is located near Huay Kwang station on the MRT north of Soi Cowboy (Sukhumvit station). A taxi ride from Sukhumvit is about 100 baht. This area caters largely to locals and other Asians. When on business trips I have stayed in this area several times, in part because it was close to my distributor’s office and in part because my sales associate was Asian (Chinese Singaporean) preferred that area. I have stayed at The Emeralds once and Le Concorde (Swissotel) three times. If you have to stay in the area Le Concorde is a superior hotel (about 3500 baht executive floor). It is guest friendly so long as your reservation is for double occupancy which costs a bit more.
There are a number of massage soapies in this area; as far as I know it has the densest concentration in Bangkok. In addition to the 6 (or so) sopies that can be found in walking distance there is also my favorite, Utopia Entertainment, which is less than 2km away on Rama IX. There are a number of karaoke clubs there, but I have never been to any of them. There are also a number of bars / nightclubs in the area. I have found that the further North you go, towards Soi 17 the more farang friendly the clubs get (IMO).
It has been a year since I last went to Ratchadapisek (doubt it has changed much since). I have bar fined several ladies there, mostly from Spice Club and Spice Relux. The times I have toured the area I have noticed that there were a lot of good looking girls … if TinTin was still on this board I would have gone as far as to say … “higher percentage of stunners”. I can‘t remember what the BF was, but I think about same-same as other entertainment areas. I have only done LT there so I can not comment on ST rates, nor the availability of ST rooms. LT has (for me) varied between 2k and 3k, so a bit on the high side. Soapies range from upper 1k’s to 4k for super models, but generally up to 2.5k.
I guess the big question is whether I would recommend others to go there. If you, like I was, on a business trip and it is convenient to stay there, by all means explore the area. As for taking a trip up there when you are staying near Sukhumvit … For a soapy field trip I would say by all means. For a night out, then only if you really need a difference in scenery than Soi Cowboy and Nana. I probably should add that if you are Asian, it indeed may be a choice destination. One more note, I think the area (fairly) strictly adhere to official closing hours.
I have also read that there's Ratchada Cabaret (opposite Soi 6), which offers a popular ladyboy show less well known to holidaymakers. I have been to the Simon Cabaret in Phuket and wonder if it is along the same lines.
Further south, by one or two km there also seemed to be some bar and disco action. I have never explored, but have driven by a number of times.
As I said in the opening of this thread, don’t look to me for all the insight information about Ratchadapisek entertainment area, but I hope the above was helpful and that it may inspire other with some or better knowledge to add to the thread.
PS. As I have written this I feel like spending more time my self exploring the area someday; especially the southern portion that I have never visited.
