I know I know (One night in Bangkok) Yawn
Normally I just get on a plane and turn up, look around and find out. This time I think it will be a bit different. I have booked a holiday over the Thai new year and need your advice board. I arive on the 12th April at 18:10 I want to go up to Chaing Mai the next day to see what Songkran is all about, as they say its good up there. So... I'm in bangkok 1 night I have been there before but only for a day and did not know where to go. This is what I would like to know. After reading stickmans review on Nana, where would it be good to go for a night of looking and mabye a bj bar (never been to one and wonder what they are like, do they exist) I will be knackered from flying so want to spill the beans then go to bed, if you get what i mean, I just want to get there and know I am there and alive (office work bordem) I am a bit confused over what sukamvit is and soi's. Can someone tell me what sukamvit soi road to stay near? 1500 baht for one night stay. Thanks.

Hotel to book - majestic Suites, Sukhumvit Road between soi 4 and soi 6. Majestic Suites Hotel, Sukhumvit Nana in Bangkok, accommodation hotel Bangkok.
Below are two places to visit close to Nana. These are things I would generally recommend during the day in my opinion...
Lolita's (BJ bar) Sukhumvit Soi 8 - turn right out of hotel walk to soi 8 turn right on rightside look down side street for girls wearing school uniforms.....
Soapy Annies Between soi 2 and 4 in Rajah Hotel - Turn left out of hotel, turn left and walk up Soi Nana. Walk past NEP and keep going until you see Rajah Hotel.... Walk into carpark and straight ahead is Annies. 4 and 12 are a good choice
Plenty of posts about both of these places if you search back in the Bangkok thread!

who needs a map with my great directions LOL!
Majestic Suites is available for about 1300 Baht for a nice superior room.... and bang in the middle of everything! Girl Friendly, the girls behind reception are great, breakfast is ok, Don't hear the noise from outside. 2-3 minute walk to Nana. I find you get a better rate for hotel through Bangkok hotels online reservation in Thailand. this is who I always book the Majestic Suites with and never a problem with them!
Taxi from airport is approx 300-400 THB
Across the road you also have Gullivers Soi 5(nice pool tables also) and Biergarten Soi 7 for Freelancers.... Or head to Soi 7/1 for Eden club

Last time I stayed in Sukhumvit rd (that was near Nana) I didn't book anything in advance. There are loads of hotels to stay at. Even though if you're travelling during the tourism season time (I think April still counts here) it's better to book something in advance. There are many dirfferent hotels of different level. I think it's better to spend a little more and get something decent. For 1500THB it should be just about right to get something what does not have cockroaches in it and any bad smells
As for Sukhumvit rd., I believe it could be considered as the main nighlife area of Bkk with lots of nighclubs, restaurants and similar stuff. It's indeed a good place to hang out.
As for Nana, without much of hesitation I go to Rainbow 4 club which despite being popular and (in)famous has got by far the widest range of girls out of all bars in Nana and possibly even the whole of Bkk (some 300 girls work there, according to someone I knew), so you can be sure to find something of your taste anytime. Although it'll be more expensive than one might normaly expect (3000-4000 for LT and 2000 for ST).
Too bad you're spending only one night there... just a few stops away from Nana (by Skytrain) there's Siam Square with two massive shopping malls MBK and Paragon, the latter being the lasrgest mall in Thailand with some 300K sq.m of retail space. If you're up for some shopping these are the places to drive you crazy
In any case, it all feels like home with loads of Westerners and generally chilled out surrondings. And safety? I think it's not a concern as long as you're being reasonably careful and don't act stupid. I believe it's safer down there than in London Westend/SoHo on a Friday night
I was wandering there (and elsewhere in Bkk) at day, night or any other time of the day drunk and in all other states. There was not even a hint of unsafety. Only annoying thing is those people offering you to buy something or any other sort of shit they're up to. But that's something one might easily get used to and simply ignore.

There are many (conflicting) opinions about the two areas ....
Nana v Cowboy
Soi Cowboy v Nana Plaza

I know Cowboy is often regarded as "better" than Nana but from my all experiences it hardly exceeded my expectations, to say the least. During my last stay in Bkk I went there three times and all three times I ended up leaving it for Nana cos I didn't want to end up not having any... and I simply could see anyone of my taste there... it never happened in Nana.

Good information Sars.
Is there a big difference between Superior room & Deluxe?
Can your LT have free breakfast as well if you book a room for two?
Do they have room safe?

Superior rooms suit me for my needs.. From what I have seen the Deluxe are just bigger rooms!
The cost difference between a single and double room it would be cheaper to book a single and order the extra breakfast if she wanted to join you for brekkie.
There is a safe in the rooms. Big enough to fit a smallish sized laptop 13." But rooms very safe also... Never had any problems and there is someone at security 24 hours a day. I left my laptop out the whole time I was there, never a problem!
