Non-mongering bars?
OK, it's a hardship, but I have to attend a conference in Bangkok in March. During this time I will need to take various business acquaintances out for drinks. Any good suggestions for non-mongering bars near Sukhumvit?
The mongering bars, I already know.

If you really don't want to go to monger bars, just invest a few hundred baht in a Fodors/Frommers/whatever type of guide book that is aimed at the "normal" tourist and only go to the places they recommend...and then if you end up at the wrong kind of place you can say, "but it was in the guide book" and not look like your mongering self, but let's face it, eventually you will end up near to one of your favorite bars and you will suggest just taking a look inside, and when you go inside you are going to be greeted warmly and enthusiastically by some bar girl that you may or may not remember but who calls you by your first name and the jig will be up.
Not that this sort of thing has ever happened to me.

Do you mean Titanium on Suk 22? That is a nice place if there are people and especially if the band is there.

or the bar at the top of State Tower....
However he did ask for Sukhumvit bars, if he wants to go further afield, my list will get very long. And if he wants to go miles, we get into the Nawamin bars and then I shall really start to wax lyrical.
For the time being i forgot the Black Swan benath Asoke BTS and Soi 8 in, yes, Soi 8

I only have one night and maybe an afternoon/evening on my last day. I will try to resist any pre-arranged meet ups, but still may happen. You know it is a great place when you get dissapointed when you only get to bop one girl all night. 55555

Landmark Hotel has a variety of bars and dining....always a safe location to meet and feed business contacts....Nipa Thai restaurant..Huntsman pub...cocktail bar up on about the 30th floor...great views....and after you put them into their taxi you are only a short walk to Nana Plaza....errr..or so they tell me. Enjoy.

O Hanrahans , about 100 metres down soi 4 on the right.
Nice bar in the JW Marriott on soi 2.
How can you resist the temptation.?
I bet if you asked your colleagues they would prefer to go to mongering bars but it is probably taboo to mention it.
Good luck!!

Hey, Skipper, are you coming to GasTech?
Thanks for the tips, you have given me some good ideas. Probably, I will try to avoid bars in hotels - bit same-same-ish, if you know what I mean.
I know some of the people coming will be happy for a trip to NEP, handy for me as I am staying in JWM. But, a lot will not want that, or won't want to admit that they really would like to go there.

Tenderloins on Soi 33 for a good steak (at least was when I went last). Non mongering bar unless I was missing something...please tell me I was...but close enought o some high class (for want of a better discription) mongering in case you change your mind.
Down the line at Thaksin station on the river the Shangri La has a great bar. Not sure if they serve cash on bar for non stayers.

No, Vietnam and Thailand in March-April.
Got a congress in St Petersburg in May (suggested to move it to BKK with the help of Port Authorities of Thailand, but didn't succeed).
Preparing now for Qatar Qflex.

And expensive to say the least...
Go have a 4k stake or perhaps a 5k lobster, along with a beer for about 500.

Both the State Tower and the Banyan tree have bars so you don't have to eat there. At the State Tower, the bar is slightly more expensive, maybe 250 for a standard drink++ or beer, but the view is very impressive and when the band is playing it reminds me of a scene from some luxury cruise liner. The drawback there is that they don't have any chairs to sit on (at the bar). The Banyan Tree is slightly less expensive and has little tables and chairs, but it is more fun to sit on a stool at the bar if you can get one. Both have great views and are fun for a drink.
It is quite easy to run up a big bar bill when you venture into premium brand alcohol and stay for just one more drink a few times!
Well worth a visit if you've never been there though.
