visiting with my Patong bg

Hi

I want to take a few days out in Bangkok from my stay in Patong during my next visit as I have never been. I'm thinking of taking the GFE I always have in Patong over with me. But only if I think she'd like the trip. Is there enough interesting things to do during the day for her? I of course wont be venturing into the bar scene areas while there. So would like some pointers on good "normal" bars and maybe nightclubs to enjoy without "distractions". I know Patong has some great bars and nightclubs without girls jumping on you every two seconds but are close enough to the action to be busy and good fun.

BKK is fantastic for shopping. No Thai girl will refuse to go. Take enough money.

Stay at a nice hotel, perhaps on the river. Visit some tourist attractions, river boat, thai massage. A million and one things to do in BKK without shopping.

She does enough shopping in Patong. Not that I mind too much as she prefers the markets to JungCeylon. I only plan on 3 days in BK and don't fancy dragging my **** round shops. So the tourist attraction seem like a good idea.

Start up the river by boat. Wat Arun, or Temple of the Dawn looks better from the river, but jump off the boat and give it a try.

Further up the river... Wat Pho or Grand Palace...

Grand Palace is good if either you or her haven't been there... Make sure you comply with the dress code for GP
plus the GP gives you an extra admission to a choice of a few others. I did the National Museum once.

Hop the boat up the river to Bang Lamphu (Khao San) or Thewet (Rama V statue)

Dusit Zoo, and the Largest Teak House (forget the name) are all near the famous statue of King Rama V. Even a trip just to the Rama V statue would be a treat for your gal. It's about 3 km north of Khao San Rd... not near other attractions, but a great, quieter area of Bangkok.

On the other side of Khao San Rd is the Golden Mountain Temple... although the tuk-tuks will tell you it's closed, it's a nice look & view.

Canal Boat is just at the foot of Golden Mountain will take you towards Sukhumvit. You can hop off at Pratunam, where they frce you to change boats, or continue and get off at Sukhumvit Soi 3, or go much, much further down and get off at The Mall, Bang Kapi.

If you're off at Pratunam, the Observation Deck in Baiyoke Sky hotel is good once, just for fun.

Thornburi isn't as explored by tourist. Pinklao Mall has a good cinema and some great Thai country music joints close by (they're all over Bangkok) with wooden tables, great food, lots of music, and packed with Thais havin fun.

Thai massages, foot massages... great local Thai food, or even street food. Lunch or Dinner buffet on a riverside hotel isn't cheap, but usually world class. Try afternoon tea at the Peninsula, or Tom Yung Goong at Bang Lampo market. A choice for every budget and every style.

You should be able to get a good hotel for 2000THB, a nice one for 4000, and a super one for 5-6000. Basic room can be had for 1000.

Thanks for that. Great help.
I like eating out at the local thai, loas and vietnam places not only because it's cheap but you get to experience so much more. I've sat on many-an-old plastic chair or wooden bench tucking into great meals.
The trips sound good and I'm sure the GFE would like them.

If you have the time you should go to Samut Prakan just outside Bangkok and visit Muang Boran, the ancient city. Ancient City in Thailand - Photographic Tour
Not far from that place you'll find the Erawan elephant shrine. Both places worth the trip.

Almost all the clothes you buy in Patong and other parts of Thailand come from Bangkok. So most stuff is cheaper there so get her to save her shopping till she gets there. Stalls and shops just outside of the main shopping centres are real cheap but they all get their supplies from the markets. There is a good 1 everyday just up from Pantip Plaza.

Vimanmek Mansion is a nice place to spend an hour or 2, especially as it was built by, and the home of King Rama V. They do guided tours through the place.

Nice list of BKK to do's Jingjai.

My two cents worth....find a nice girl-friendly hotel on Sukhumvit....buy her a couple of pieces of nice clothing that she can show off when she gets back to Patong (farang take me BKK).... - Platinum was recommended above by Dennis and I'd agree - lots of shops and it's air conditioned ......but skip all the farang tourist and temple stuff....what does she want to do all day? sleep...and in the evening take her to Soi Cowboy and Nana where she will be comfortable and interested to see how things are done in Bangkok....she'll be at ease and you can have a hassle free roam through all the bars cause you already have a girl in tow.

One other thing if you are flying Phuket to BKK with Thai - upgrade to Business class for a couple of thousand baht extra - well worth it and your TG will have another story to make "face" with when she gets back. Enjoy.

Don't reckon I'd take my girl to Cowboy or Nana, Minder, reckon she would appreciate more a nice club like QBar, RTA or Bed Supper Club, surely she sees enough beer bars and go go's?

Mine prefers Hardrock Cafe....

As always it depends on the girl but a few BGs I knew were happy to see how things were done in other bar areas - more comfortable for her than getting the freeze stare from farang couples in the tourist areas or "hi-so" thais in theirs.
