And that to me is one helluva mystery!
Even in low season cocklepicker's statement is correct.

This thread keeps on reminding me that I need to book Nana soon before it is too late(full).
I have never made it to the free breakfast as it is too early. 55555
The 2pm check out time is great!

What about the older Thai woman at the reception desk... When she was checking me in she kept asking "100bt tip for me, 100bt tip for me, please sir you rich, me no money" this was all done in whispers and under her breath. I told her I'd give her a good tip when I was leaving, which I did... She was quite elegantly dressed with gold glasses and a big hairdo... Wonder is shes still there. Funny...
Speaking of classy establishments... Anyone ever stayed in the Rajah Hotel on soi 4... It has to be the biggest shithole I ever stayed in. I stayed there for one night too...

i have joined this thread at a late stage first of all to call the nana hotel a dump is nothing short of stupid ok its not luxurious it might need some redecorating and tidying up but a dump it certainly is not !
i have stayed there around 20 times during my trips and i can assure you i would not stay in a shithole as someone described it neither would i stay in one of the top of the range (high priced) hotels because i am not miserable but i dont waste my money i am only a normal everyday working guy so not much money to throw around especially with todays s hite exchange rates.
but heh for the guys who can afford it i have no problem with them staying in top notch hotels its there money !
why do i stay at nana hotel
i likie to spend my first night in los at nana plaza so its convenient for N/P
NO OTHER hotel in that area has a swim pool and is also below 1500 bhat a night
i often go from nana to huahin for a few days there is a direct mini bus service from the hotel 2 times a day to and from huahin
i have never had any problems staying at nana hotel and the staff are friendly
at the end of my trip i stay at honey hotel sukhumvit soi 19 again not a palace of a hotel but good price clean with a nice pool and convenient for soi cowboy
i am staying one night at nana in october just had my confirmation they have raised there prices its now 1490 bhat a night for a standard room .
but as someone already said they wont redecorate the nana because it is always 100% full so its a cash cow to the owners .

Waiting for my confirmation as I just sent my booking request last night via Asiarooms.com.
Standard room for September is advertised as $43/night.
I just checked my invoice from this past April stay and that was $46/night.
Hope I get confirmation soon.

just, we all have different views
a big part of the reason i like to stay in luxury hotels(well except that i love them) is i fly a long way to get to Asia. i work extremely hard and i like to treat myself
but i would say the biggest reason i prefer a luxury hotel in BKK is because it is so congested and humid outside i like to retreat to real comfort
although in June i am trying that LeFenix, and it is only 1700-2000 nt with an indoor pool

It is quite pointless to discuss wheter nana is a dump/shithole without taking into consideration the person staying there. For a wealthy conservative person travelling with his family it could rightly be considered as a sinful dump. However for single men looking for fun and on a budget it can be considered as perfect. Objectively though I belive that everybody that has stayed there will not disagree that it is quite run down and in need of an upgrade.

That would put darn near all hotels in the Nana neighborhood in the same category then. I.e. falangs strolling in with bar girls continuously and at all hours.

Yes, the "sinful" area of nana could easily ruin a hotels reputation for certain target groups. One doesnt find too many families with kids at Nana but I have seen the odd one and they do look and certainly feel out of place 5555555

Talbotman
PAUL ALL I CAN SAY IS if you have got it flaunt it 555555
seriously though as i have said we all have different jobs and income levels so if you can afford to stay at higher class places then no problem " if i winn the lottery before i come i certainly wont be staying at the nana 55555
as toomychlrk says the nana is a single mans hotel and in that scenario it does its job well same as the honey hotel on sukhumvit soi 19 although there are still some families to be found in the honey
i am laughing at the thought of someone taking there wife and kids to the nana hotel WHAT A MISTAKE 555555

What's up with this ratchet up inflation... pause.. ratchet up again?
FY 2000, the price was 990 baht, pause... FY 2003, 1190 baht, pause... FY 2006, 1290 baht.
Now it is 1490 baht?, so that is a 50% increase in 8 years... Hmm, seems to be about right given Thai inflation levels compounded, but this ratchet up style of inflation confuses me a little....

again, i dont fancy Nana Hotel, especially if it is getting up to the 1490 stage but could see the value at 1k baht
seems to be a few decent hotels popping up in BKK in the 2k range that i think might be worth the extra 500 baht

MAYBE SO but are they 2 mins from nana plaza with a swim pool and a mini bus service to huahin and pattaya for 500 bhat and 300 bhat respectively .
agree that 1490 is a bit much and it will probably mean that i will in future stay at the honey hotel all the time 1000 a night
but even with their price hike i bet they are still full all the time .

i guess i can understand the appeal for some people to stay 2 minutes from Nana
even when i was in full monger stage, i like to say a bit away from it all
that is my dilemna next month. i surely want to stay at Summer Breeze in Phuket and know i will like the hotel but i just am weary that it is in Soi SanSabai
i never stayed so close to the action before and dont know if i will like that
