Smile Advice Needed 1st time Bangkok

Travelling to Patong for 6 days then onto Bangkok for 4 days 3 nights, few questions if anyone has any views greatly appreciated.........
Want a good hotel for decent bed, clean, close-ish to the action and girl friendly, was thinking about the Ambassador Bangkok, willing to pay upto Ģ35 $65 per night 3,500 baht a night!!! Any views on hotel?

Is Bangkok a safe place to have a few drinks be merry and have a laugh!!!! Not to feel intimidated by locals?

Any sightseeing that should be done, seems silly to go a long way not to see anything but a bar and some tremedous women?

What sort of things are good for shopping in Bangkok if anything?

I hear the Eden club is an experience, is it really as good as people say?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, 16 days and counting!!!!

Bangkok hotels

Here's what I'd do: register with the Priceline Hong Kong site. Bid on a 5 star hotel in the lower Sukhumvit region. Keep the bidding at what you're willing to pay. Chances are you'll score the JW Marriott or the Westin Grande Sukumvit or some other good hotel in the area. The cost shoud be around $65 US, per night.

The Ambassador is not o bad, very basic and in the old part in need of updating, but hey all i want is a bed ,a shower and then its location location location.
i have to say i always feel safer walking around Bangkok than i do at any time in my home city.

Bangkok - very safe. Nowhere I've felt safer, certainly sfaer than Phuket. Just watch out for late night katoey pick pockkets between Suk soi 3 and Suk soi 33. I've never had a problem, but just be wary.

The Priceline info is good. The 5 star hotels mentioned are guest friendly. Ambassador in my book is a bit of a tip, lot of building work being going on around it for a while, but probably not so bad now. You can certainly do better....much better.

Sightseeing. loads. Way Phra Kaew (Grand Palace), Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Royal Barges Museum, Jim Thompsn House, Snake Farm, Crocodile Farm, Wat Benjamabophit, Wat Indrawihan, Wat This Wat That. The list is endless.

Shopping. Superb. Endless list.

Eden Club, don't know don't care, wouldn't go in a brothel if you paid me.

I was staying at Tawana ramada, a few steps away from Patpong and very friendly staff. Dunno if it was a 3 or 4 star hotel but either way the room were pretty good, not the best. But the location of the hotel and the staff was GREAT. *Best breakfast i ever had*

*edit* just saw your budget, why 65$ a night on a hotel room? your not gonna spend so much time in it are you? If you're on a budget for the vacation save some of it for the fun stuff. http://www.bangkok.com/tawana-ramada/ (48$ a day according to this site, but i remember it being cheaper) and im sure there is better choices aswell.

Priceline Hong Kong

Just do a Google search for Priceline, Hong Kong. You have to regtister to bid, and once you bid and they accept, you've bought yourself a room. If you bid too low you can immediately rebid for a slightly higher price. I've gotten rooms through there on several occasions. They add a service fee and tax, but the five star hotels can usually be had for around $65 US per night, everything included, which is a lot cheaper than the usual price. You have do do your bidding in HK dollars, so be sure to look up the conversion rate.

Of course you can always find some smaller hotel that's even cheaper, if you're trying to save money. For example, the Majestic suites is decent, and the rooms there are around 1350 baht.

I love the mandarin hotel, I book a room for 33 EURO per nite which is about 45 dollars or something. It's a really nice hotel and luxurious, the staff make you feel like a special guest.

Sightseeing:

From wherever you end up staying, get up early and take the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin (change at Siam (pronounced See-aam) if necessary). Take the exit closest to the river and head for the dock (Central Pier) on the left with a booth. This is the office for Chao Phraya Tourist Boat - for 75THB you can get a day ticket for unlimited use on the express boat and taxis up and down the river. These boats stop at a number of piers along the river which give access to the R. Palace and Wat Phra Khaeo, Wat Pho, Chinatown and the National Museum on the East (Bangkok) bank. The cross-river ferry to the R. Barge Museum (beware extra cost for photography inside the museum on top of entry fee) is included but a similar trip across to Wat Arun will run you and extra 5 THB each way.

But the real attractions are the views of Bangkok from the express boat (with commentary in English, of sorts) and the experience of riding the stern of a packed river taxi - just don't expect to get a life jacket to yourself if anything goes wrong...

Also Chatuchak Weekend Market has to be seen to be beleived, again take the Skytrain to Mo Chit (end of the line) - you name it, they sell it.

Cheers,

K.

Have you tried Dynasty? Good for price and proximity to Nana Plaza (~30m). Not big rooms but GF (keep ID at front desk, but no extra charges) and prompt email replies.

personally I dont see why people would want to stay near Nana Plaza. The place is overpriced and overrated these days and far better times are to be had in other areas of Bangkok.

Don't forget to try The Bier Garten on Soi 7 - walk straight past the girls, grab a table and order the minced beef omlette with steamed rice

Hi, in same situation like you (BKK newbie, but 38 days to go ) perhaps this link is interesting for you click. German Beer Garden is mentioned there too and so itīs also on my planning (even if I donīt want to meet any germans there)

Or this one, check the links on this site. Maybe it was there I found a report of a guy who was not robbed by a FL cause he couldnīt sleep... I like the idea of girlīs ID beeing checked (better coppied) by the hotel receptionist. Would feel better with my brand new cam which canīt be deposited in the safe during the night (itīs needed )

Good luck and donīt forget to post your experiences here.

Peter

Lots of people stay on Kho San road. I would avoid this area unless you are really broke. Most of these guest houses suck and they won't let you have a guest for the night.

As soon as you arrive go for a soapy massage. This is a real Bangkok treat. Most of the Tuk Tuk (3 wheel motorcycle guys) know where they are. If you use them you'll pay a small commission to them. I heard Poseiden is one of the best.

Don't go to Patpong. This area is overated. You'll be overchanged Check out Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy

As far as Eden Club in conserned. This place is strictly for threesomes. The owner is French he doesn't like people who come to his bar just to drink. He'll boot you out if you don't pick some girls

Don't buy any jewlery. Don't go to a tailor recomended by a taxi driver
Don't accept food from a strangers. And always practise safe sex. Don't get involved with cards games with the locals. Don't pick up freelance prostitutes working on the streets
