Bangkok Airport Duty Free

The entire Bangkok Duty Free area is one of the worst rip-off joints I have ever been a witness too...

(Smoking Room is as shite as the one in Phuket as well)

Anyone else got a similiar conviction???

Seems to be the same everywhere. For instance: in Istanbul's airport, duty free prices are 50% higher than in any other places in town....

I've met the owner of King Power on several occassions.

He usually attends in a B34m Ferrari

Didn't get it by selling at cost....

Would never shop there other than cigarettes.

Duty Free has never meant as much in countries outside say the UK where the tax was so high, if there is no tax, there is nothiing to take off. Therefore they charge department store prices for department store shopping.

BTW I only bought smokes as well because on tax alone I save 85 Sing Dollars for one cartoon or put into BG term 2 LT's in Phuket...

The one on the way out towards the British Airways gate charge 150 baht for a heineken.
There is also a private smoking room upstairs, used to be the old KLM business lounge. You have to buy a drink to use the smoking room, but you can't take your drink inside?

i got a bottle of red label at the duty free in BKK about two weeks ago, 495b for one liter. everywhere else in town a 0,7 liter bottle is roundabout 600.
doesn't seem like a rip off to me, or am i doing anything wrong? are there better places to shop for that in BKK? let me know...
i'm not into smoking anymore...

Hi Flo

Stuff like smokes and grog thye can't really rip you of on as it is pretty obvious around the world how much these things cost without tax. Every drinker and smoker knows exactly how much tax they pay where ever they are in the world because we pay so much all the time. Its something you can't hide.

What I was talking about is 1250 baht for paperback novel, 500 baht for souvneir thumbnail size statue, etc.

It was at last 100% more expensive on some items compared to Duty Free in Phuket/Sillypore/Regional and at least 400% on retail in Bangkok.
