Hotels
Hi Cheep Charlie
Don't worry I am same as you mate, I would suggest staying around Nanai Rd. Here there are bars and restaurants etc. Its a bit quieter but plenty of girls to pick up. Loads of places to stay, here are some I can recommend from previous trips...
Palm View Lodge...used to be owned by my mate
Paripas Mansion...or
http://www.phuketdir.com/residenceedouard/ ...not stayed here yet but I will do on my next visit.

If you stay for 7 weeks i would recommend to rent an apartment for 1 month..
I stayed at the Green House, http://www.phuketdir.com/greenhouse/ , and it is a really good place. Also alot of the girls from MTB lives there. 5 min motobike to Bangla.
If you want to save money, it is a good alternative. 7000bath/month there, 27 000bath/ month if you take a hotel...
You can make a deal with them about cleaning, and the laundry is just 25m away.

hotel
Try contacting a serviced apartment complex like The Admiral Suites ot The President Park Group. You can negotiate a good rate, or a great one, depending on your skill level. 1 tip: bargain for the entiree 7 week stay in 1 place. MOOK

Phuket Wings and I stayed in Eden Park Hotel Sukhumvit Soi 7 - very close to the Beergarten and a restaurant market place. Only +/- 1000 baht per night for a double room. swimming pool, Airco, clean rooms and tv and mini bar. Walking distance 5 minutes from Nana Plaza.
Minor drawback .... the corridors in the hotel are not very clean... but I do not really care

i went to bangkok couple months ago for a fantastic trip. i stayed at the "miami" hotel..im at work at moment havent got full address. if you contact me gbrad17@hotmail.com i'll forward address. it's right in the heart of all the action. about 550 baht a night. no charge for bringing girls back. big pool and air conditioned. all you need!! own bathroom and shower.
i plan on going back to bangkok late june also , will be booking in again to this one.

Suk 11
Suk 11 is a backpacker joint and is on sukhumvit soi 11 down an alley across from the ambassor hotel, it is cheap: 500 baht per night for a single room with ensuite and air-con, no fridge or TV, but who cares about that. It is so tranquil and really different from all the action right out on the street in front of you. And its close to soi 4 (ie. nana plaza, angel diso)
I stayed there for three nights before departing bangkok, the hotel is not guest friendly but i took a couple of girls up to my room late at night (after 2am, you can use a short time hotel if you need to anyway.)
In the same alley is a Tex-Mex resturant "Charley Brown's" and I had some of the best tacos I have even eaten there. Around the end of the loop is "Cheap Charlie's", an expat bar that has to be seen, met some lovely people there, cheap beer for 50 baht. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that doesnt need all the hotel amenities.

The cheapest place I found in Bangkok is called Happy Inn. It's located in Sukhiumvit Soi 3, so close to the action. Room rate is 480 B/night but of course, don't expect too much for that price... There are more decent places on Soi 11 with rates around 600 B.
Regards,
Bobby
