Safety in Bangkok

Hey Guys, A few mates and myself will be visiting Bangkok around the 18th April 2005 for about 5 days , and in a previous post a lot of BM's gave me some really good info about places to visit whilst in bangkok. Now i really want to go pretty hard whilst here, visiting a lot of the pubs, bars and gogos as well as seeing a few of the sites bangkok has to offer , my only concern is that of all the times i have been to phuket, i have never really been out in Bangkok before and wanted to know is it safe?
I mean is it safe to walk down the streets and sois in bangkok and drink inmthe bars and not get into trouble?, like it is in phuket. Are there any places/bars that one should not go to, are the taxi's safe to trust late at night?. Any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated, as we do not want to have a great holiday ruined.

Stick to the main areas and its cool.. Ther can be a little risk in taking taxis out in the boonies late at night but you are not going to do that..

Also watch out for some of the upstairs 'shows' in the Patpong area.. I have heard of people going in, and the place having a 1 drink min because of the show.. Drinks then cost 600 baht etc.. Heavies enforce the payment.

I also read that if this happens agree but insist on a reciept.. Walk out and straight to the Tourist police who are familiar with the scam and will come back and get you money back (if its important)..

To be honest you really are unlikely to have any hassle satggering around Nana, Patpong, Cowboy, etc

Livinlos is spot on with his comments...........l got caught out with the upstairs shows....cost me 600 for a drink, and when l objected l then sensed things could possibly turn pear shaped, so l gave them the money and put it on my list of things not to do again in LOS

Ill be there on the 18th with my mate for 2nights Jaysen and we'll be staying in Majestic Suites Hotel beside Nana so if you want we can all go out on the pull there together as im a newbie to bangkok aswell.

Anyway Ill see you in MTB first and we can sort something out then, By the way what date do you arrive in patong on???

If all things go well, should be in patong around the 12/4/05, as i will be spending a few days in samui first now (plans have been all re-arranged for this trip) then off to bangkok on the 18th!!!
