Hi Gate 7!
No, you are not crazy!
I have felt those tremours too during my visits to BKK.
My guess is that the heavy traffic makes the ground move, because BKK was built on clay, the whole area is actually a big river delta. It's like the city was on top of jelly that will sway on any movement! There are earthquake trembles that can be felt in the capital from time to time, but personally I think it's the cars that makes the city shake!? or if you stay in the Na Na area of town it might be all the movement coming from hotelrooms were farangs are boom booming Thaibargirls!?

I stayed at Bright City Towers when I was last in BKK. Had a nice studio apartment on the 10th floor. I really liked it because it is much more quiet to be way up above all the hub-bub below. Also I really like having a kitchen and it came equipped with plates, spoons, forks, etc.

I never noticed any shaking, but I'm sure all that traffic could cause it. Im many places here in the US, I have noticed that buildings can shake when really big semi-trucks go by.

Here are pics of the view, which was nice also.

P.S. OK, I could not post the pics. Here is why. I had pics transferred from my camera's memory card to a CD by an Internet shop in Patong. They used a READ ONLY format when they put the pics on the CD. The files are jpg and approx. 1000 kb each, which is too big to upload onto this site. Consequently, since I do not have authorization to further compress the files, or to alter them in any way, since they are in READ ONLY format, there is no way for me to post them here!

Read them to the hard disk then edit them there.. If they can be read they can be saved elsewhere.. (try save as instead of save)..

HAve you tried:

Right-click image -> select <Properties> -> Untick the [Read Only] box

If not you may not have ownership of the files, see:

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

Cheers,

K.

I did move them to the hard disk, but the result was the same(not authorized, contact administrator).

So, I printed them and then scanned them back into the hard drive. I'm usre they won't look as good. After the first time I printed them, they were so deark that a lot of detail was lost, so I went back and resized them again and lightened them. I 'm going to tr to send them now, but the files might be too big and I'll have to go back and resize them again if that's the case. i've already spent at least 4 hours on 3 pics. You can see why I don't post pics too often!

I'm back. Just as I suspected, the file is too big (157 kb), so it's back to the sweatshop to resize again. At least I have something I can work with now. God only know what the finished product will look like!

Save them to a hard disk , right click them , go to options , security , advanced, ownership and add yourself to be the owner of the files. You then have enough permision to edit them.

Thanks K.

I'll have to try your suggestions when I get a minute. I just spent the last hour writing this reply which I tried to accompany with the pics that I scanned and resized twice. The HP program sucks for resizing and they came out still too large. So then I took the HP resized pics and resized them again in the Interactive JPEG Optimizer, which does a great job of resizing(very easy). But then after I wrote this reply the first time, I went to attach the re-resized pics from the Interactive JPEG Optimizer only to find that as far as the rest of this computer is concerned they don't exist, as they are not in any way directly connected to the main list of files. So I had to go back to the Interactive JPEG Optimizer program where I found the files hidden in a folder called the working directory, and then copy them out of there and send them from there to the Pictures folder in the main directory. It took me well over an hour to figure all that out. So now I'm up to 5 or 6 hours to post 3 pics which are not going to be top quality anyway.

I am going to post this, then come back to attach the pics, because last time I tried this, I lost the window with this post in it and now I am writing this a second time!

Well, there they are! Looks like I forgot to rotate them. Actually they came out of the HP program the right way, but when they went into Interactive JPEG Optimizer, it rotated them without asking me about it. I could have rotated them back, but the IJO is great for compressing and terrible for everything else, even simple tasks such as rotating which takes a long time and sometimes just glitches entirely when you try to rotate a pic. Oh, well, that's thebest I can do for now!

Wow! That's bizarre. The pics came out giant-sized. And they look like impressionist paintings instead of photograph. They look like Van Gogh painted them! Was he ever in BKK? Maybe I am his reincarnation. I kinda look like him!

Oh well, what do can you expect when you ONLY spent 6 hours doing them!

Well, they're 24bit (16mil) colours now, so I guess at some stage in the above you passed through a lower colour depth - still, we get the picture (literally).

If you can get access to the originals you might try PaintShopPro 6 or 7 (PSP 9 has now been taken over by Corel and is heading the way of all Corel apps - over featured, slow and unweildy) - you should be able to find PSP6/7 on a cover CD for free.

Back to the original topic...

Late at night in the eye hospital, you can pick up a tremour as the tube (underground, subway) trains rumble by below. Perhaps you are near a BTS or subway line?

Cheers,

K.

Thanks Wakeboy and K. for the advice. Unfortunately it doesn't work. When I right click, then click on propertie, i get a description of the file, but there are no options there whatsoever. There is only one tab. It says general and there is not an option to click on it. The only choices there are to click OK or cancel. That's it. Maybe it is because I have Windows 98SE, not Windows XP.

ARRRGGGHHH!!! now he tells us!

Still, the read-only attribute shopuld be there in the general tab of the properties dialogue.

I don't have a win98 machine to hand (they're all in the museum), but find the MS-DOs Prompt somewhere in the Start Menu - it should open a nice black command window. Are you OK with DOS (http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/dos7comm.htm)? try:

attrib -R [drive:] [path] filename]

e.g. attrib -R c:/mypics/picture1.jpg

or attrib -R c:/mypics/*.jpg - if all the affected pics are in the mypics directory.

That should clear the read-only attribute for the pic(s).

Thanks for all the help. K. I am obviously not the computer whiz that some BMs like yourself and Wakeboy. But I am learning and pointers help a lot!!!

I'l try what you suggest when I get home tonight.

BTW the link above (www.generation.net etc.) does not seem to be good. Whe I tried, the result was "HTTP 404 can not be found."
