Good Hotel Near Bangkok Airport...
Hey yall...I am flying into Bangkok from the States and my flight arrives at 8:15pm. So, I am not going to catch a plane to Phuket until the next morning. Can anyone reccomend a fairly priced hotel close to the airport that would be suitable for a night's stay? It will be my first night ever in Thailand so Im not looking to get freaked out in some shady place my first night there...any help would be great.

Amari Airport Hotel is right there, no fee for transfers but not a cheap hotel. Not a lot of stuff out there near airport.

When you come out of International arrivals there are normally guys holding banners/placards advertising hotels, just ask them location to airport, normally these hotels operate shuttle bus service also, but as with any airport prices are high...I stayed in one coming back from singapore one night about 2km from airport and think it was 2000 baht.
I am flying to LOS from cairo and have a 12 hour layover in Heathrow, all I want is a dayroom and cheapest price quoted yet is around 90 pounds, thank fcuk company is paying

Based on the fact it cost me less than that to overnight at Heathrow a few months ago, 90 pounds sounds a rip off.
BTW Which terminal in Heathrow will you be flying into / out of? (Terminals 1,2,3 are grouped together, and there are hotels 10 to 15 minute still away (or 5 min taxi ride). Terminal 4 is on the other side of the airport; shuttle takes 25 minutes.)

Just jump into a taxi and bring you to Khao San (30 min). About 160 Baht. A lot of foreigners there. A lot of rooms also. From 150 Baht to .. Average 200 Baht. Next morning hail a cab and go back to the airport (again 160-180 Baht). So you'll get a taste of Bangkok.
If you are afraid to do so, book the Amari, check in, watch CNN and enjoy your "american" breakfast. Spam and scam.

Khao San may be a little hardcore, or basic, for those who are no longer backpackers I think?
If you are looking for some action for your night in Bangkok, try the Nana Hotel. Nana Plaza across the road and Angels Disco out back, 20mins in a cab from the airport.
If you need a little peace, and if I have someone meeting me at the airport this is what I do, before you clear arrivals in the airport there are some places touting hotels, tell them what you want and they will sort you out. They will sort your transport into Bangkok for around 500baht as well.

And how ever friendly keep well clear of the thai men and women with white shirts and black ties that will come up to you and ask if you have hotel or taxi and offer to arrange it for you, they are on commission and take you to the hotel that earns them the most and you will pay more for it and the taxi than if you sort it out yourself. Take steves advice book the nana hotel or where ever before you go and just get in a regular taxi out front of airport, make sure the taxi has meter then you won't get ripped off.
