newbie help needed
Well newbie to Bangkok, anyway. Due to my flight from Shanghai getting in too late to connect to Phuket, I am spending one night in Bangkok (now, there's a song title there somewhere), and I am staying in Shangri-La.
What is best way to get from airport to shangri-la, is there a hotel shuttle bus or is taxi most efficient.
If taxi is best roughly how much should fare be, what are the scams to watch out for, etc.
I have really cocked up by arriving on first night of buddha holiday, but beggars can't be chosers.

As one of BKK's top hotels they would certainly offer transfers, and it is mentioned on their web site -contact them and find out the cost (if any, considering what you're paying.)
Otherwise, if you have little luggage) the A1 bus drops at the Shangri-La (100THB).

Hello Dizbusta:
I didn't know there was a racecourse in BKK. I love going to the races and I bet it's a scream in BKK. Have you been? Where is it roughly? Any comments? When is the season?
Many thanks.

Thanks to every one that has answered. Hotel tells me its 1800 baht each way. As we say in London, They're having a geeraffe. So it looks like a taxi is best deal, bus sounds really good value but don't want to traipse round all the different hotels.
Cheers!

This is a good way to pick up a taxi at the airport because you save paying the airport tax, but make sure you hail a taxi and ask for the meter to be swiched on as some try to get you to pay a fixed rate.
When i returned from phuket to bkk last time i went into the city for a few hours and he wanted B650 when it only cost me B250 on the way out. That was to by NEP.

You were not lucky, that's the normal price. In 4 years time I never paid more then 250 Baht (toll included), either way, any time.
The "tourists" pay 500 Baht up. Which they think is cheap.
If you arrive in Bkok, take the elevator to the second floor (departure), taxi's over there are very willing to take a customer back to town. Alternative: stay on the same level, fit in the queue and pay 500 Baht.
