Can anyone recommend a good Bangkok Hotel?
Near some good nightlife and shopping areas please? Im coming to phuket for 2 weeks in November but thinking of having a few days in Bangkok first and hoping to get some good clothes and experience the city for a few days. Any recommended hotels? Thanks everyone

For the nightlife better to stay in a hotel in the Sukh. area
like Nana, Majestic suites or Dynasty soi 4.
1200-1600 baht/night

Have a look at this site for tips on shopping
http://www.bangkokbob.net/malls.htm
Of course you always have the option of the street traders on Sukhumvit or in Phuket

www.tarntawan.com
is where i stay, they do have some odd looking old gay guys loitering in the reception, but if you can blinker that, the rooms are big, clean and sport a massive bed for bg,s.
They have no joiner fee, you take as many girls as you like back.
The security will keep thier id card and you will be telephoned in the room to check everything is ok before they leave.
Also you can book online and its right in the middle of Patpong, shopping galore..

Tanrntawan is a nicely decked out place.. big rooms and beds you can fit 4 or 5 in..
But.. Theres no in room safe (I dont like that as I take rolex off to sleep and Bangkok girls are a higher risk than Phuket ones IMHO) and as Ratpack says its a chutney ferret hotel, theres a boy soi on the opposide side of Patpong1 and quite a few furtive looking fellas around the lobby.. Cant say it bothers me any but it is funny in the lifts !!!
Also rates are higher than they need to be IMHO..
Majestic is my 'regular' BKK hotel now but no pool means I may switch to a place around suk 11 - 13 my mate showed me last time (forgot name) for any kind of longer stay..
Majestic is very close to a BTS station so Siam / MBK / Etc are all easy to get to..

If you going there to do some naughty things it is better to stay at Dynasty, but make sure that you get the rooms t the "new" wing. They are better.
I don't know if Royal Benja are guest friendly or not. Hv stayed there many times but with my girlfriend. I think that they ask for joiner fee.
The rooms are very big there.
Hv fun

My first night in BKK will be in the Eastin hotel. It was included with the ticket. Does anybody know it ? Is it close to the Sukhumvit area ?

I like the eastin Hotel, no it is not near sukhumvit, it's East oif the Sky Tower, not far from Pratunam....very short taxi ride to soi 3, but actually because of the one way system a bit of a pain to get to from there.
Breakfast is excellent
Not sure if guest friendley or not, never been on my agenda when I've stayed there

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit! A little bit upscale but you get what you pay for. And guest firendly!

Loads of Amazing Hotels In BKK
Hi There!
Check out the Sofitel Silom and Triple Two Silom.
Great hotels in a great place with an amazing price considering their star ratings.
If you're looking for special & luxury hotels check out differentasia.com http://www.differentasia.com
They do all the top hotels so don't expect budget, but they present them nicely with independent reviews and photos. Prices also reasonable.
Hope this helps,

eastin
i stayed at the eastin in may 2005, and booked via direct rooms, i think 1800 a night not cheap but i wanted to be reasonably close to panthip.
i booked a double, the girls at reception asked me where my room mate, was and i replied she will be found later.
no problem and no joiner, just id card at reception.
many russian and korean tourists.
good clean rooms
