Khao San Road
How far away is Khao San from the subway station?
I couldnt find any nearby from the map
How big is Khao San area anyway?
Is it easy to walk up to the reception and get myself a room below BT 1500 in 3rd week of Nov?

Koh San road isn't really conveniently located to anything but itself unless you want to take a tuk tuk ride or a taxi. I like to stay away from it and just go there at night sometimes.
Stay somewhere along the skytrain line and then you can taxi from MBK. Remember Bangkok traffic is really bad. Children off school at three and then people off work and government offices til 6 or so. You might find some taxi drivers wont take you during these hours.
PS - Yeah you can find a room no problem around the area. Not my cup of tea though....

I was thinking of getting accomodation somewhere where its near to the subway. Khao San has plenty of cheap accomodation and most travellers are there.Somewhat I wouldn't feel that 'lonely'. My purpose in bkk is mostly to shop at the famous night markets.

Khao San Road is cheap, 600 Baht/night no problem. It's an area about 4 blocks square maybe, and is not far from the King's palace, museum, National Gallery, etc., which is nice stuff to see.
There are lots of young people, many guys travelling with farang GFs, many guys who pick up TGs elsewhere in LOS or BKK and travel to BKK with them. So it is a couples scene, and a scene where young farang singles hook up with each other. So if you are looking to hook up with a farang girl or bring your own girl with you, then it is great fun, lots of bars, lots of energy.
But don't go there if you are looking to hook up with a TG. Not a good place for that. Find the girl first, and take her there with you.

JB, look at her avatar. Why would she want to hook up with a TG?

OK, I see your point, assuming she is a she. That didn't occur to me since half the guys on this board have pics of women as their avatars!
But, then, let's just say if she wants to hook up with a TG(Thai guy).

Hooking up with a Thai girl on KSR is just as easy as anywhere else. Its just you have not so much choice. And most of them are just to party and have fun with a young guy from outside Thailand. I love it.

If you really want to save money in BKK then I guess you can just stay at a hostel in Kao San. I personally don't like to go there because it is out of the way and to me it is not really BKK. I don't think it is correct to say that most tourists stay there either (Im sure that is very far from the truth). My recommendation would be to stay bear the BTS or MRTA in a reasonable priced hotel and if you really want to see Kao San then spend 1 evening there... and not more.

Most hotels on Kho San don't allow overnight guests. Some have rules against having Thai's upstairs. If you get off the main drag there are a few places that will allow overnight guests.

I had a look at KSR last tour, must say it was a disappointment, pretty much the same stuff you get on Sukhumvit from afternoons onwards, just much more difficult to get to/from unless you stay there. The only difference I saw was the openly displayed fake IDs (press passes) and docs on a couple of stalls.
Got there by BTS to Saphon Taksin and river boat to Phr Ahtit (pier 13 IIRC) then about 10 minutes on Shank's Pony.
Probably won't go back...
