Tradition Thai Dance/Play

Any suggestions on where to go in Bangkok to see a "traditional" Thai dance/play/whatever show? Where they get all dressed up in the big headgear and long finger extensions and whatnot.

On all my trips to Thailand, the closest I ever got to it was seeing some people in costume waiting on a street corner for their ride to appear and the Phuket Fantasea show. Figured that's the one tourist thing I haven't yet done.

Oh booking is easy. Just want advice on where the best show/deal is? I'm sure it is like ladyboy shows, some are much more professional than others. Like the difference between the Simon Cabaret and the show they (used to?) put on at end of Soi Ladyboy.

Actually, I slept through the one at Simon Cabaret (Damn airconditioning), but I understand from my girlfriend it was a nice production.

Anyway, for any of you that have attended a traditional Thai dance show, any suggestions on good ones/ones to avoid?

If you are still looking for a show in BKK then just go to the Oriental hotel. They have a show every night I believe at there restaurant acroos the river. It is a little pricey, but should be what you are looking for....

Thanks MC, I'll keep it in mind. Right now I think I'll head to Siam Niramit that just opened. I'm not sure if it suits my needs or not since I can't find anyone whose gone before (they just started last month).

I'll report back when I get back.

Hey Hitchcock, I checked out the link for Siam Niramit... I haven't been there myself, but judging by the looks of their website I would have to say that they have a better show than the Oriental hotel show I recommended.

Looks interesting. I visited that website and it the flash stuff was driving me mad so I ran a quick search on google and got the Asia Travel site with just the facts.

Let us know how it is. I might consider going in January if someone says its worth the 1700 baht / person.

1700 per person?!!!! Does that include a BJ from one of the performers? I may have to give this place a second thought....
