Mail order wife/ Green Street Hooligans
I just watched two films that I bought in LOS on DVD. Interesting films.
1) Mail order wife., OMG fcuking hilarious and weird all rolled into one. its about a guy from the USA who gets a bride from Burma. Along the way you see that the guy is a freak so the girl runs away and ends up with the film maker who proceeds to shag her then marry her. It was shot documentary style so I thought it was. But alas it was just a piece of fiction. Worth a watch though.
2) Green Street Hooligans, about football firms. Interesting as I have never any experience with that sort of thing. Elijah Wood stars with Charlie Hunnam. I actually like Charlies character quite a bit. The movies about loyalty and reputation and all that. I quite enjoed it. Made me want to get to London to viddy a football match.
cheers,
DD

Not seen GSH yet but only recently saw 'The Football Factory'.. Really good UK indie style film.. My housemate has spent his time on the terraces (and more than a few rucks afterwards) growing up so theres quite a bit of footie casuals books / history / etc I have caught up on in the last year,
Mail order wife sounds good.

Mail Order Wife
Mail Order Wife was on cable here so I watched it one day without first knowing anything about it. At first I thought it was a documentary, but I finally figured it out, that it was just a fake documentary. Still, it had me going for a while. I guess I'm just too gullible sometimes.

I didn't really rate Green Street Hooligans, the last 30 minutes or so is just silly. ID is a much better and more entertaining film about outsiders drawn into the casual scene, and if you want realism, you can't go far wrong with Alan Clarke's 80s TV film 'The Firm' with Gary Oldman.

My boy, who is 14, stitched me up with GSH by telling me it was called 'green street', so I was pretty surprised by it!
Not my sort of film to be honest, I found it pretty bleak. Sometimes they can be funny too, Snatch for instance mentioning Vinnie Jones, but not this. Not impressed, sorry

No worries its diffenetly not in my top 10 and I only paid 90B for it. I just found it interesting cos Im not exposed to that activity here in the states. Another BM said it though the last 30min or so for me were a little much.
cheers,

Green Street....
Just watched this a couple of weeks ago in the mess at work. The plots a bit far fetched, US kid kicked out of Harvard becomes a leading member of West Ham footy hooligans....having said that I still enjoyed it. Picked up the Football Factory before i left the island, haven't watched it yet though

Was ID the one where the undercover copper infiltrates the gang and falls for the ringleader's daughter, who just happens to be the barmaid at the pub where they all congregate ?

Alright Sef
I finally got a copy of Football Factory here at blockbuster video for $5.
I actually liked it. I did recognize some of the actors that i have seen in other english films. Danny Dyer I had seen in the Mean machine. I like his character.Oh the two old war vets were a bit of a laugh too. I did like the intesity in which these guys get into just as they did in GSH, but I still did not see a whole lot of footy to go with it. i dont remeber them going to a match. Well I liked the film and for $5 it was a deal and I picked up the Mean machine at the same time. Produced by Guy Ritchie so it has all of the usual suspects that he uses in his films. I would still say I preferred GSH cos I like the two main characters. I just thought they were cool together. It reminds me of me m8 in London and me honestly. Always telling me to stop saying soccor!!!

Bit of an old thread to drag up, but here is my opnion.......
Just like West, i didn't rate Green street that high either, ID is a better film, and I also agree that the TV film "The Firm" which made Gary Oldman name (along with a few other "Eastenders" in the UK) is an excellent film. The best about the ins-and-outs of the gangs around English football.
Actually the film "Football Factory" was fianaced and produced by Rockstar games. Who made thier money from the Grand Theft Auto computer games. Danny Dyer I think is an excellent actor, but there was anumber of years that he went off the rails due to bad relationship choices. As he started dating a fellow 'actor' from the film "Harry on the Boat.." and his acting and carear choices were a bit crap! But it got back on track recently with "The Business". He is in one of my favourite films of all time though...... "HUman TRaffic!"
Yes I am bored!

i did like GSH,did think the story was a bit far fetched, but the main actor(not i elijah woods),the dude who introduces him to the firm(ozzy guy i think, not sure),his wannabe cockney accent pissed me off through the film, just a little annoying, dunno if anyone picked up on it,but for a fairly big film should have got that right, many other better choices of actors.
did enjoy it though,ID defintely up there, good old skool one.

I like Human Traffic but its got that bit too much 'student film' to me.. Some of the 'to camera' comedy moments felt a bit naff.. It did have a very honest human interest level that grabs people.
As to other mentioned.. GSH was good but not great.. Suffered from a little bit of over the top but not too much to ruin it.. Just got the business brought out from UK for me, not had a chance to watch it yet.
One of my mates met Danny Dyer while he (my mate) was working in ibiza.. Said that he was a right arrogant prick..
