Pulp Fiction
..has just been on one of the obscure sattelite channels and I had forgotten what a great movie it is. Definitely in my top 5 ever.

Dunno about No1, that's got me thinking actually, but definitely a top film. I'm old enough to remember Grease (which is another of my top 5) so John Travolta is a star in mine eyes.

Great dialogue, smart timelines and script hooks, but for my money also really important very well shot, there are some truly iconic 'frames' in that great use of tight close ups etc. A very very good movie and in my top 10.
Though the sad thing is this and 'Dogs' shows how far Tarantino has fallen IMHO.

Well you list movies there that he was less connected with..
As I director he has done a lot less than his fame deserves IMHO.. Dogs and Pulp fiction were stunning from a newcomer.. 4 Rooms has its moments but in general is forgetable... Jackie Brown was a good take (it was an Elmore Leanard wasnt it ??) but not really up to the noted 2..
So since that ?? Some TV stuff.. The Kill Bill two.. Not a lot else...
As a writer you can add in True Romance and Dusk till dawn (one is good the other is cheese fest.. Only saved by Selmas snake dance).. Perhaps some other forgettables and the previously mentioned 'for TV specials' that I guess pay the bills..
Did he do a segment of Sin City ???
Basically as a Director he hasnt really kept any consistency.. Big gap between Jackie Brown and Kill Bill one..

Hi LiL,yeah Dusk to Dawn thats it,I think he wrote it earlier and once he hit it big with P.F. they made it knowing the name Tarantino would pull the punters in,thats what happened to me anyway.I wouldn't know about Elmore Leanard or sin city without researching.I remember itchy an scratchy doing the ear loping scene from the Dogs tho,555555.Getting back to P.F.one of the things that made it stand out for me was,so many of the actors were at their prime and he got the best out out them possible.I know John Travolta's career was more or less resurected by that film,he was very good as Vince,an all the others,Bruce Willis,Tim Roth,Uma t,Samual L,they were peaking,an bounced off each other, brilliant.

I noticed the close ups etc. last night but would never have thought of that sort of thing before, but the camera angles and dialogue (particularly in the restaurant bit at the end) are brilliant.

I am a bit of a film fan / movie buff.. Shooting and cinemetography and the impact they can have on a films mood / power / essence etc are things that hit me..
The tight face close ups remind me of Sergeo Leones The Good T Bad and the Ugly.. Often said if I was back in the west I would do some more education in film school.. Not as a job prospect just cause I think it would be fun.

Pulp Fiction
Use of Camera angles and dialogue was what made Hitchcock so big for his time.Long time before todays equipment was made.

PF = great movie! The "last hurrah" for John Travolta, IMHO.Perhaps for Bruce Willis, as well. And Uma has never looked better, it was her peak.

Wasn't Roberto Rodriguez director of "Dawn til Dusk" + "Sin City" Tarantino's co screenwriter and long time callaborator...hence the production credits for these films?????......QT did direct a scene in "Dawn til Dusk"
Reservoir Dogs is the best heist movie ever made......I just love Mr Brown!!

I guess Ill be the hater in this crowd. I almost walked out of the movie theater when Pulp Fiction came out. I could not stand it. I later got it on DVD and appreciated a bit more. Would be nowhere close to my top 5. Im a classic movie lover and love those old Big producion movies. I think Tarantino is at best mediocre as a director. I do like his writing though. Its so crazy. His acting I can live with as along as he plays a freak which is close to his on persona as I heard. Some of the shots were cool I have to agree.
