wouldn't give "Blood Diamond" my best movie award but I thought it was a good Hollywood movie which whilst having many important themes didn't spill into the usual Hollywoood "pulling heart strings" pattern too much....although there were a few scenes where this was evident....particularly towards the end......
Djimon Hunsou was brilliant....you actually thought of him as the character not an actor
DiCaprio was pretty good I thought......but there were moments where he lost the character a bit...
Connelly......only seemed to catch the role when she was laying on the love/empathy bits...which to me were the weakest part of the film...and the most unbelievable coming from that character....who is meant to be a hard nosed interrnational investigative journalist/adrenalin/adventure junky....
some good Hollywood action scenes thrown in there....but these sometimes worked against the film IMHO in that it didn't stay on line with these huge interruptions into what should have been a well told/constructed film....
I still have a mental image of the real news footage from the time of the Freetown coup.....chilling stuff....and whilst the movie did capture some of this....it was so much scarier than shown....particularly the brainwashing of kids so they became these marauding punks dressed as women in wigs and dressses whilst slaying innocent people with AK47 high on drugs........mindnumbingly savage stuff
My vote is going to Babel.......
