The Bourne Ultimatum
saw this one on the weekend
getting a bit too formulaic now but still much better than any Bond film....still gets you in and takes you along for the whole ride
some good scenes in Waterloo Station and Morocco
7/10

although still a great movie, i thought it lacked good dialouge and i also thought the fight scenes were way to frantic. i couldnt tell who was who half the time

I went last night.. It came out just after I left for India and last night was (I think) the last night in central.
I like it.. some gaping plot holes aside.. Its smart, its realistic in a way bond will never be.. Its frantic.. The Tangiers location (and multi level chase) was superb.. The fights were choreographed superbly.. The Bourne character is capable of sustaining the story. All in all a great spy romp.
The downsides are the shooting (someone buy that man a steadycam) I am sick of this technique of fly on the wall through shaky camera style but it has to stay in with the second I guess (this fits with the 'who the hell did that' in the fights).. And a slight bias to more action and less dialogue and planning, thinking etc. Bourne could have been a bit more tactical and I think Bourne fans would have taken to it. A bit more 'Spy Games' and less action hero.. I loved the train station scene hiding the reporter in the crowd and moving him around tactically.. Great stuff.
I also like the way they use the role.. Like when Bourne teals a vehicle its as likely to be a beat up scooter, or a VW polo as it is a big sports car. And the way that hes flying by the seat of his pants and improvising constantly (as it should to be true to Bourne).. He crashes.. He thinks on his feet in real time etc..
Didnt recognise the 3rd book at all tho, been a few years but seems all they took was the name and theme.

Went to see "The Bourne Ultimatum" this evening. As I was strolling up to the ticket window, I looked at the posters for the other films playing there, and one caught my eye, because there was Scarlett Johansson, big as life, and looking good as ever. But I would never go see a movie named, "The Nanny Dairies," which I had never heard of. Would I? Hmmm...., I thought, weighing such a ludicrous possibility against seeing the ever-so-cool, highly-rated action movie. Hmmm..., Scarlett Johansson... Matt Damon... Scarlett Johansson... Matt Damon? There she was on the poster, staring right at me with pleading eyes! How could I tell her, "No"? Sorry, Matt! Maybe next time. I've got a last minute date with Scarlett!!
I can tell you everything you need to know about "The Nanny Diaries," in three words: Scarlett Johansson - captivating! Or in Thai, I would have to use 8 words: Scarlett Johansson naraak maak maak lae suay duay!

Easily the worst movie I have seen this year. Pathetic dialogue, shaky action scenes, unrealistic characters. Can't wait for the next Bond film to chase away the stench from this one.

There were two Steadicam packages on the truck throughout. The choices were clearly made to go with the hand held configurations instead. They really wanted that look.
Frequently, scenes were covered simultaneously with 2 or 3 cameras. One of these was often a Steadicam. So that would mean that these decisions to go "shaky" were also continued in editing.
Interesting.

I am sure it was an artistic choice, its just one I dont like much. Seems to have become way to popular and its distracting and now not origional to make up for it. Just my 2c.

I agree completely.
The approach seemed to have some merit in the original Law and Order series. But they really worked hard to keep the movement subtle. Also, I think that somewhat looser framing (wider lens as in L and O) works a little better.

I thought parts were too tight and shaky as well. Found it distracting because it made me think about the production aspect.
Overall I thought it was great. Best big budget action thriller i'd seen in a long while. Great way to close out the trilogy.

What is the best one word description of the Bourne Utimatum?
Is it:
A) BOR-RING!!
B) Repetitve
C) Letdown
D) Samesame
E) Damonesque
F) Pointless
G) Muddled
H) Mediocre
I) Formulaic
J) Moneymaker
K) Anachronistic
Well, I could go on all night like this, but to describe what my reaction to the movie was, really requires two words: WHO CARES?

sure.....to achieve that cheap mockumentary style the director/DOP was after it for COG it worked well....not that they had much choice with that budget......but its been so done to death since that period that it now signals trick and irritates and distracts for me!

Yeah exactly with Nels on this.. Also was grabbed and taken by so many TV series to create the 'just like being there' feel.. As an new idea it may have had merit.. But when its a stale idea AND a distraction..
Plus for Borne it was tight framing so the combo made it confusing, the Tangier fight scene especially left me dizzy (not in a good way) and had a hard time seeing who was who.
Good film, just being picky about the Direction.
