Thanks Paul, will check it out. Last time you mentioned it I did ask for it but was out of stock that time, then I forgot. I am sure I can order it if its still not available.
Gson gave me Prison Break and Heroes when he arrived but I am already up to date with these and need something new to watch. I only have one episode left of Smallville 7nd season.
Whats the outcome of the writers strike that happened 1-2 months ago? Are they producing shows again?

I love The Wire, it is great!!!!
Season 5 starts in the USA in a couple of weeks.
The show demands patience, because it is far from being past-paced, but the characters are rich and the storylines are very clever. You also have to contend with some 'language problems', because the gang-speak can be difficult to understand (at least for me).

Ahhh...soon time for the 5th season...sweet bliss. As mentioned above this wonderful series demands patience...The Wire doesn't dumb down anything at all in order to cater the larger crowd. It's hands down the best TV-series ever in my book. Only Nip/Tuck comes close.
No main characters, some story arcs span over all the seasons. It's more like a novel in pacing. Excellent dialog and fantastic acting. Writers like Pelecanos and Lehane have written parts of the script.
Quotes like this:
"What's the most usless thing on a woman?"
"A drunken Irishman"
"Yeah, but you're not exactly Irish, are you, McNulty?"
"I've had fourteen shots of Jameson, how's that for green?"

A number of the actors to have appeared on the show have been real-life policeman and petty crims, giving it an extra layer of authenticity.
This show is not for everyone, though. Something like The Shield (which I like too) is more digestible.

The Shield is good escapism for me. And has had some fine actors appear on it over the years. Forest Whitaker was brilliant in it.
