underbelly- melbourne,s gangland murders
it,s very rarely i get sucked in to watch tv. especially an aussie made tv series.
i think it,s one of the best jobs oz tv has made for a long time, IMO .
has any other aussie BM,s been watching ?
if so what do you think?

Unfortunately in Melbourne, because of a Court Order, it has not been screened......however l have a pirate DVD set up to watch....as soon as a mate is finished.
Not sure if any of these characters are in it.....but all get a mention in the Underbelly book l am currently reading.
Joe Quadara....gunned down......used to be President of a local football team l played against...met him once in the 80's....had a reputation for liking guns back then.
Joe Quadara - Melbourne Crime - Underworld - Ganglands
Dimitrios Belias...he used to be an SP Bookie that a few of us would use back in the late 80's......all ok so long as you paid at the end of the week....but the problem some of my mates had was that they were caught short on occassions. This led to Belias and his cronies making some of them start cashing stolen cheques around Melbourne to "repay" their debt....."Hang the dirty washing out" it was called.
One of the guys lived with me and got involved in this cashing stolen cheques racquet....l even found a cheque for $10k on the floor of my house one morning after a few of them were up late one night.
l gave that cheque to another shifty mate l knew who showed interest....but that's another story.
- Melbourne Crime - Underworld - Ganglands
They guy who l lived with (he rented a room from me for about 12 months in the late 80"s) was also a friend from the local Football Club.....he started getting involved in all sots of racquets....l even had a fist fight with him at the Football Club soon after l kicked him out of my house.....he end up jumping the bar and breaking my nose.
The informant - supergrass - Melbourne Crime - Underworld - Ganglands
He end up doing time for multiple counts of fraud and drug related crimes. He then became linked with Tony Mokbel....he is known in the press as "Supergrass"...as the Courts have supressed his name as he agreed to give evidence against Tony Mokbel. He was recently arrested in Holland, and will be extradited soon.
Tony Mokbel - Melbourne Crime - Underworld - Ganglands

I have watched eps 1-8 and loved every minute. my only claim to fame is that I know the actress that got executed by the bikies.
It is about time that a quality crime series was made locally. The last I rated was Phenix which was made a long time ago.

Yeah I are also watching and enjoying it, I also really enjoyed blue murder which was about the NSW police and Neddy Smith. It aired on foxtel last year. That was really good!

Enjoying the series and have watch every week so far,in sydney replaying all esposides this week in a marathon of underbelly.
only thing getting sick of seeing carl williams and his missus ****ing at the start of every show.
Blue murder was good, had some personal contact withh quiet a few of the players in those times being involved with SP bookies.

So Mav has connections (albeit loose) with the Melbourne Mafia 55555
Who'd have thought it?

It is an unusually well made program.
Blue murder was under court order for about 5 years for the same reasons, no file sharing or easy to get pirate stuff then. I think the ABC showed it the day after the order was lifted because they dropped a murder charge against Neddy Smith.
Bumped into Roger Rogerson in a restaurant in Surrey Hills a while back, he looked pretty fit too. A lot of blood on that blokes hands.
Closest I got to connections is brother in law used to hang with some of Abe Safrons mates when he lived in the Cross, but only because they were poms555.

It's good to see some quality Aussie made drama on our screens. I'm so sick of the stuff that comes from offshore. If the NSW government gets its act together and gives the filmakers some incentives to film in Sydney we should see more of it over the next few years

Now that I am back from LOS i will watch the pirated copies. Actually I was given copies to burn of the actual channel 9 discs. I have Blue Murder on disc. That was great.
I have a pic of me and Former Senior Sargeant Roger Rogerson when i went and saw Chooper Ried and Mark Jackson Roadshow. RR was a touring with them as well.
Have Met Mario Condello in the past on several occasions. Wont be fussed if i never meet any of this lot ever.
Are we Melbournians in contempt of court by posting like this? lol.

One thing I cannot understand about the Australian television industry, is that they can make great shows like Underbelly and yet for a similar, if not greater budget, they make crap like Sea Patrol!!!!
Wish they would get their manure together!!!
NB If the stories on Sea Patrol are a reflection of the rules governing our military (there must be co-operation, therefore censorship), then we are headed down a steep and slippery slope towards being a laughing stock!!!!

Missed most of the show last week as I was as sick as a dog!!
Talking to some mates on Thursday, I found out that pirate DVDs out of Melbourne ( of All places) are all the go.
If the producers don't bring out a genuine box set of the series very soon after it finishes, then they are a pack of idiots!!!
I'd be a buyer!!!

Underbelly - Episodes
Someone heeded your advice visa2003 last episode aired on May 7th and it went on sale as an Uncut boxed set of 4 discs in the stores (outside of Victoria, of course) for between $50 and $80 (or buy it now for around $100 on ebay) and sold out within hours I'm told. Wonder how long the panic buying will last? Regardless of where you get it, make sure you get the Uncut version, the other stuff was edited so it was suitable for tv.
Still not for sale in Victoria.
I got my copy from my usual supplier last night (he charges $A25 (plus some postage I guess). It is four discs and clearly a direct knock off of the Uncut original that only went on sale yesterday - love to know how they do that so fast.
It looks and sounds good so I'll be getting a couple more for friends in...um...a certain southern Australian state.
If any BM's want similar copies you can PM me for his email contact details.
