Iron Man
Watched at SFX Central tonight, a bit tongue in cheek but aren't all Marvel based movies. Well worth a viewing though and some good effects... Not sure however why they chose Robert Downy Jnr for the lead role but to be fair he carried it off pretty well.... 8/10

I enjoyed it...far better than the Superman/Spiderman movies. The scenes in the lab when he's building and testing the suit were terrific. Real cringeworthy moment though if you're a classic car fan...surely they substituted a fake one for the scene!
Doesn't Jeff Bridges look old and weird.

I will no doubt be pulled to see this.. Also I tend to find those marvel type action movies a simple guilty pleasure, I have stopped expecting action movies to have plots worth anything and so the simplicity of a comic book world lends itself to blockbuster action quite well.

Yeah Jeff Bridges does look old. He play a great bad guy though. That's the first time I remember him playing a villain.
The movie was great. It's as believable as a superhero movie can be. Robert Downey Jr did a great job as Tony Stark. I initially wasn't sold on him before the movie came out but after thinking about he really was the perfect guy to play a middle-aged playboy alcoholic.

Forgot to post that I went over the weekend..
Enjoyable basic romp (ohhh those nasty caricatured combination arab afghans again).. Great specials, a story that doesnt hang about, amusing performances..
Bridges did a great villian, looked very 'comic book' with his beard and shaved head.. Downey also very good. Lots of good locations (that pad !!!) and cars / toys etc.
Also interesting to think you can now watch a movie on thursday, mentally review if the film will have a good weekend, bet on the stock if you do, and make a 10% pop on monday when the weekend figures roll in.. Reviewing movies as a financial bet

yeah really liked it too having gone with low expectations after some of the later spiderman dross etc
Downey was superb as was Bridges....but the man who made it was Jon Favreau who directed and cameo'ed as IM's driver.....I have seen everything he's been involved in since he dipped his toe into the water with "Swingers" some years back....he managed to keep the tongue in cheek all the way through and never swapped over to the corny as almost all of the "Marvel" efforts seem to have done lately
yeah....I mark it a should see!

Saw it on Sunday and agree. Worth the price of the Big Screen. One of the cooler scenes I thought was when IM landed in the village, shot at the tank and after he turned around and walked toward the camera the tank blew up and i think the sound started playing the Black Sabbath intro to IM. Felt like a frame in a comic book.

Really enjoyed it. I like the fact its a little more based in reality than other superhero movies. Using technology rather than "super" powers.
Good performances all round and Downey Jr's Tony Stark reminds me of Depp's Jack Sparrow in its 'can't help but love him despite the obvious flaws' kinda way.
Have to say that the Stan Lee cameos are getting distracting, really pull me out of the 'world' they worked so hard to drag me into.

Yea but Stan did look like Hugh Hefner and fooled a lot of people and to be honest Stan did make Mavrel the leaders in the market, they owe him a lot think his what 2 secound cameos are just marvels way of saying thanks ..

I know what he's done for Marvel and I know the cameos are kinda sweet but the fact remains they pull me out of the movie.
Not as much as I hate Quentin Tarantino's cameos! uugh.

I love the cameos and always look for them....I thought "Hef" was the best one yet and I let out a huge hoot of laughter which was a bit embarassing as no one else in the cinema even laughed...so was glad I didn't know about that one in advance
Interesting guy Favreau...wrote "swingers" which he persuaded Doug Liman to direct (Liman was then a young fledgeling director) and has also been joined at the hip career wise with Vince Vaughan who starred in it with him.....I see parallels with him and Vaughn vs Affleck (Ben) + Damon as they are all very talented actors/writers/directors/producers who cross back and forth between mainstream + indie with seemingly little negative effect from either "audience" and maintain their friendships despite some ridiculous press

Does that really work? Which is a better investment, blockbuster movies or gold?

If you think Jeff Bridges looked old, Hef made him look like a kid by comparison!
