Fiction Books

I read a lot of fiction, mystery, adventure, spy thriller, Military stuff. Need to let my brain relax and not think about work so escapist fiction is good therapy.

for everyone in the UK, Ian Rankin is a great author. Really have enjoyed all of his books.

Adam Hall's Quiller series

Bill Granger's Devereaux series

James W Hall, W. E. B. Griffin, Tom Clancy, Stirling Silliphant(has not written any books in a while), Carl Hiaasen, John D. MacDonald.

Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford series

Robert Ludlum's Matarese Circle(have read all of his books but this is my favorite by far)

William Diehl's Chameleon

Have lots of others and some unknown or not well known authors that I really liked and will send info later.

Enjoy!

I read marching powder recently also.. Pretty good read..

Of course there is a new flashman book out (dont yet have it) but the flashman series (George Mcdonald Frasier) is great politically incorrect reading.. bedding tollops etc...

Good Brit gangster movie called 'Charlie' with the totally surprising lead played by one of the 'Bross' brothers...

Also enjoyed the 'Borne' books recently.. Lots better than the film as you would imagine, even tho the film is good..

The Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum
THE BOURNE IDENTITY (one of the best books i have read)
THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (great seqeal)
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (good read)
was disappointed in the movies.

"The three lives of edward berner"
and the seqel "Edward Berner is Alive Again !"
by Herbert D Kastle
are a good read also but hard to get hold of.

Nobody mentioned Harry Potter? lol, I read the last one last year and was one of the bigger books I have read in a long time.

I bought DaVinci code recently and will start reading that book.

And... We now have a forum for movie and book talks.

I seen Batman Begins on friday and its brilliant, Its by far the best batman, Michael Caine is superb in it and so is liam neeson, Its a must see film really, You will not be disapointed, I would give it 5/5

And last night I seen Mr & Mrs Smith, Well what can I say about this film, Some of the stunts are brilliant and the storyline is great, But the best thing about it apart from Angelina Jolie Is Brad Pitt, He is fu*king hillarious at times and plays the part brilliant beside Angelina, Some of the scene's when the trying to kill each other is top notch, Honestly I would also give this 5/5

If I was to choose between the two, I would say if you want to go see a film to get stuck into, I would choose Batman but if you want a bit of action and loads of gags and laughs, Then Mr & Mrs smith is the one for you!

Watched Ray the other night.. Have a pretty nice sound setup in my place and the recordings and audio on this DVD is superb..

I really dig Soul / Blues / Etc.. Ray Charles was an amazing performer and has so much material.. The movie was good but the sounds were great.. Acting on this was superb IMHO..

Saw Ray twice. Once at the theater, once on DVD. Super movie. Awesome sound track! Really captures the flavor of the times it was about.

Having been a fan of Ray Charles all my life, I have to say that Jamie Foxx did an amazing job of recreating the man's life on film. To enact someone who so many of us watched during his life, and not look like an idiot imposter, but acutally make you feel that you are really watching Ray Charles is the heighth of acting prowess IMHO.

Currently reading...

Received John Simpson's (BBC news correspondent) book 'No Mans Land' as a xmas present. About his travels into Afghanistan as the Taliban were getting the butts kicked a while back. Its crap.

Currently some of my favourite reading has been by authors James Lee Burke and John Connolly's 'Charlie Parker' novels.

Connolly's books are about serial killers with a supernatural twist to them (The Killing Kind, White Road, Dark Hollow, Every Dead Thing). He manages to create some truly evil characters. Just going to start on his latest offering 'Black Angel'. I'm suprised none of have been adapted for the big screen yet.

Since Gary Glitter is a current hot topic on the forum, has anybody read anything by Andrew Vacchs? This is a man with a serious hate for kiddy diddlers. Very noir novels, mainly based in New York, but among my favourites. Also like Thomas Perry - books like The Butchers Boy and Sleeping Dogs or his Jane Hathaway novels. Read and enjoyed all of James Lee Burke's books too.

Yea and its gone be funny with the movie"Da Winchy Code",but to be onest i was suprised by the choise of Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon.

I would prefer a older man like Gene Hackman or Sean Connery.

Just the picture i have in my head and every time i see Tom Hanks i think about Forrest Gump so i was not happy with that.

Its directed by Ron Howard and i hear he is good

Yes its funny when you read what he could have chosen:

I read this in the paper today:
Trivia: Director Ron Howard's first ideal choice for the part of Robert Langdon was Bill Paxton but Paxton wasn't able to fit the film into his schedule. Howard then began to look into many other actors that included Russell Crowe, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Jackman, George Clooney and Tom Hanks. Crowe was the running favorite until, ultimately, Howard and producer Brian Grazer decided on Tom Hanks

Dont know if I would go for Paxton either..

Lately I think Clooney is really on form.. If he was made to look older and more bookish (mild salt and pepper grey hair etc) he would have been ideal for this.. Fiennes is a great actor (anyone enjoy 'Spider' ?? Thought that story of insanity was superb).. Russel crowe Jackman etc are all a little too 'leading man' currently.. I would have thought they wanted to cast a slightly older more distinguished person for the role also..
