More Parise for David Young
I have mentioned this guy a few times but with the new forum figured I would start off the posts with some more.. I love the way he captures the 'scene' so exactly and without moralizing etc..
Heres a paragraph from his most recent one Sukhumvit
Quote:
Two a.m. was the current closing time, but the exodus had already begun. A huddle of bodies at the Nana-Sukhumvit intersection waited impatiently for the light to change. There was no mystery to where they were going. They were headed for Thermae. The after hours ******s hoping for an easy tip, the sex addled foriegners no longer sure what they were desperate to achieve; the factory girls searching for Mr. Right, the tourists told by the friend of a friend that they just had to check it out. Owen knew that none of them could give directions. To get to Thermae, one had to forget everything he has learned about mankind, take a deep breath, and dive. Dive low. Past the casual acquaintances, past the one night stands. Down, down, past the animal sex and cave dweller emotions until the feet settle upon some hard, murky bottom. In guidebook terms, Thermae was a big singles bar without the pretensions of a singles bar. Men didn't flirt, they asked how much. Women didn't bat eyelids, they grabbed men's privates and squeezed. Shocking! Appalling! For those who haven't taken the dive, yes. These were mating rituals at the lower end of the food chain. Transactions under pressures that would kill normal men. Romance at the bottom of the ocean.
This is where he would find her.
