Thai Movie - Tom Yum Goong
I haven't seen this movie, particularly since it hasn't even been released yet, and also since I'm here in USA and it'll take a year or two to make it to the theaters here if at all. If you like action or martial arts films then this movie from the folks that made Ong Bak should be right up your alley. Ja has some pretty cool moves in these movies. -- (oops I forgot) It arrives in theaters in Thailand 11/8/05
I'm actually posting because I found the trailer online, though you guys might appreciate it as well.

From Movieseer:
Kham (Tony Jaa) is a country boy whose life is turned upside down when international mafia figures turn up at his sleepy village to capture his two prize bull elephants and take them to Australia. These are no ordinary elephants. They are majestic, grand creatures due to be offered to His Majesty the King as a token of devotion: they are.... Kham's elephants. He has no choice : he can't allow anyone to take his beloved elephants away, he must travel to Australia, right into the heart of the Mafia-run district to track down the kidnappers and bring his elephants home

It was released in Thailand on Aug 11, and I actually plan to go and see it tomorrow now when Ead is back.
The summary:
Tom-Yum-Goong is the story of Kham (Tony Jaa), a young Thai man whose life is turned upside down when a mafia organization kidnaps his two beloved elephants and smuggles them to Sydney. The two elephants are more than animals to Kham and his father, and the only way Kham can save the creatures is by traveling to Australia. Kham, a martial-arts expert, enlists the aid of Sergeant Mark (Petchthai Wongkamlao), a Thai police Sergeant based in Australia, and Pla (Bongkuch Kongmalai), a Thai woman forced into prostitution, in his quest. To get the pachyderms back, Kham and crew must take on Madame Rose (Jing Xing), and her gang, whose bully-boys include Johnny (Johnny Nguyen), a Vietnamese thief and martial arts expert, and the massive TK (wrestler Nathan Jones – recently seen in the period film, Troy). An exciting story of “Wham, Kham, thank you Ma’am” ensues.

With the ability to write a synopsis of the film like that Nicke, your wasted in the bar game. You should be off in Hollywood writing the blurbs on film adverts. You never know, one day you could be doing voice over's or even be apperaing as a dancer in the background of some films!

Let us know what you think of it. I thought Ong Bak was pretty cool, except for them showing the different angles of stunts, I kinda thought that was overdoing it.
It takes a very long time for thai movies to make their way into the American market. Ong Bak is finally being released on DVD here August 30th.

TYG is really poor - the acting is awful and its surprising that its the australians in this movie who are the worst actors. The story is pretty stupid too.
However, Tony Jaa is the new king of martial arts movies - the stunts are still over the top and unneccassary but fun. The fight scenes are excellent tho and lets be honest this is all we want to see really.
Count how many bones he breaks in the 'Big Fight' fkin hilarious

I picked up a pirate DVD of TYG in Patong in October but its unwatchable. Unfortunately the guy holding the camera recording it not only had a bad cough but also seemed to be having some kind of fit as he bounces the camera all over the place, showing as much of the surrounding cinema as he does of the screen.
I guess I'll have to wait for it to come out in the UK until I get to see it properly.

there is also one great ONE TAKE Steadi-cam shot that follows Tony Jaa up a huge Hotel Spiral staircase kicking ass!
I also wonder how many stuntmen they seriously injured :P

Tony Jaa was terrific in Ong-Bak.
I can't say TYG has an original plot. Substitute elephants for buddha head and Sydney for Bangkok and you pretty much have the synopsis for ong-bak. I'll see it when it makes it to DVD in the US though.

Man.. I thought the movie was fantastic. Just watched it w/o sub titles. I made out simple phrases here and there.. But Aussie have some really bad acting skills in this movie.
But the stunts and moves were spectular. Loved every minute of it. Although I downloaded the DVD, I have to go out and purchase the real thing just to support the actors/and the crew for this film. A+++ in my book regardless of the acting. Storyline wasn't too shabby for my taste either.

The movie opened in US theaters a week ago, under the titel, "The Protector." Personally, I thinK "Tom Yum Goong" is a much better name!
But as Shakespeare put it, "A Rose is a Rose...." In this case, "a kickass movie is a kickass movie..."
I loved it!! Awesome flick!
