Train - Thailand To Cambodia

Is there one?

I've done a forum search but nothing came up and everybody is talking about driving and flying. I'll always avoid flying if there's an option. I only want to devote about 5 days max to Cambodia so I won't drive either. From Either Bangkok or Patts would be good and then obviously on the other side of the border I'm looking for another train to any city where there's some decent action.

Thanks Lads.

Try this site: Train & bus travel in Cambodia | Bangkok-Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh-Saigon

... or perhaps this YouTube clip: YouTube - Last of the Cambodian Trains

You can get a cab in Bangkok to the border at Poi Pet, is the Thai side called Aranyuphet?, which will cost around 1500baht and take around 2.5 hours. Poi Pet is a bit of a nightmare but is a 4 hour drive to Siam Reap and should cost $40 max.

I don't even know if it's possible to do the trip by train but there is no need to fly if you don't want to.

Almost. Thai side is Aranyaprathet.

Are you sure about the duration and price here Steve? On the map, it looks to be at least 5 times further than Bangkok to Pattaya which takes a couple of hours itself. I don't see why a long trip like this would only cost 1500.

I wasn't taking notes so I might be a bit off, but the road is good all the way and it's up to you how much you pay for a taxi isn't it? I will check though and confirm back.

It's nothing epic though, it's fine once you get to the Thai side.

The 2.5 to 3 hours is right, that's how long it take's from the border to Suvarnabumhi. The cost I can't swear to but 1500baht sticks in my mind. Tales of Asia reckon that it is currently 2000-2500baht, they should know.

The same site gives details about trains to, and you are watching the pennies it's the way to travel; 48baht !!

Cheers.
I think I'll take the taxi option. Price isn't an issue and the train is a long long journey.
