K2's 10th AC Trip Report (Nov '07)

Fellow BM's - largely an update on previous TR's - for anyone considering a trip here, please read the earlier TR's as well.

Flew with Air Asia via KUL - good service, no hick-up's just a boring overnight in KUL as its impossible to get a connection to the 0720 flight from KUL to Clarke.

Note - I dont care at all for Manila scene - its geared for asian crowd - the city is even worse than Bangkok to get around and the quality of girls is not that great (perhaps with the exception of the EDSA complex).

Clarke (Airport) are rebuilding the terminal building (well more of a tarting up) - and note arriving passengers have thier luggage x-rayed and checked in customs - so be warned if your bringing anything untoward in.

Staying at Central Park/Pacific Breeze combo again - love the hotel and staff and always a welcome return. Pacific Breeze has built another extension - Oahu Wing - just over the street from Pacific Breeze - I took a look inside but would recommend the main hotel as the pool is there.

Wild Orchid Resort is pricer alternative - strange since its right opposite the bottom end BJ bars whos days must be numbered with the building freezy going on here. The absurdly expensive ABC - euphamistically named Algeles Beach Club ($89 starting price rooms) is said to be booked out - why is beyond me as its a walk to the action and surrounded by crappy dumps. Another huge hotel is going up near the top end of Perimeter Rd (next to the church) - looks to be ready Easter time and will certainly raise the bar on hotel standards here.

Property prices have lept 20% this year - anyone with bar owning ambitions could consider DMZ Bar (a dump) for $500K freehold!!

Its busy here - streets and bars pretty full and just bursting at the seems with girls. Busiest I've ever seen it and bar owners I've chatted with confirm the positive outlook.

Possibly negative trend is rise in asian numbers with direct fights to Taiwan, HK and Korea. These guys pushing prices higher and some bars (Agasaya for example) cater predominantly for them.

There has been clear cleaning up trend with bar upgrade and grottier bars being remoddled. Trend too for the rise of the mega-gogo's.

OK so bar review here:

Prices:

Local Drinks (beer/spirits with mixer) - 85P
Imported - 150P
Kilkenny/Guinness - 260P
LD- 150P (250P in DH if they want a 'full drink')
BF - 1350P (The small go-go's at top of Perimeter Rd 1000-1200P)

Camalot - My favorite bar and (Daddy as managers are called here) Tony is a great host. Enjoy my nights in there - relaxed feel and great looking line up. Good sounds and will take requests and thing I still like is the big projector for music vids/sports if the on-stage action is too much or you have a girl in tow.

Doll House - Mind boggling 400 girls in 24/7 opperation - gob smacking when see them change shifts - 200+ girls on stange at once - HEAVEN! Great choreography and proper dancing. Good varied music and good atmosphere. It is a bit 'commercial' for me but since so many girls here - this place is a MUST. Be watchful of lady drinks - for me I like the girl happy but 250P a LD can easily rack up a hefty bill - so keep track.

Doll House resturant (opposite) I like very much - western food is good and reasonable priced and sitting opposite DH means you can watch the action or have the girls flirt with you as you eat. Not so keen on the in-bar DH food - seems to be a bit hit and miss and bland.

Carousel - I was a bit dissapointed this time as seems to have slipt a notch or 2 - next door to DH so a tough act to keep up with and with DH building a new hotel and mega-go-go next to them they might feel uncomfortably sandwiched between the two. Girls seemed a bit bored and most were the same as I saw last time. Staff and manager didnt remember form previous visit and they push the ping-pong ball nonsense which I think is degrading for the girls. Worth a look but not on my recommend list anymore.

Typhoon - Always like this smaller bar - good attitude and excellent sound system and DJ reads the crowd well and keeps the grils buzzing. Well worth a look and some very hot girls.

La Pasha - Packed - could not find a decent veiwing seat - worth visiting again.

Klub Klass - Smallish disco upstairs of Bunny Ranch - have been loving this place - 3 absolute hottie resident dancers ..Mmmm .. and managers Brit managers rob and Craig are freindly hosts. Beware of Rob - like Dingo (Trent) he's got a thing for bloody Jaeger Bombs!!! The also have this drink called Flaming Tower for 400P - not for the faint hearted! (Chivas, Bailey's, Absolute and others I forget poured over a tower of glasses and set alight).

Shano's Irish Pub - This has got to be the most welcome addition to AC - a 'normal' bar! Its huge for starters - the central bar is 12m x 5m - fitted out with 20+ LCD TV's showing every kind of sport, news, movie and music. A separate pools/darts area and dining section. Live band every day from 8pm. Leather clad hotties accompany the music ... tastefull! Food is very good and quite reasonably priced - normal pub grub type faire. Owner has clearly spent a bundle on the place and is already very popular with the locals. If you want to escape the girlie bar scene then head here to mellow out. No draught Guinness yet - in cans at 260 P, likewise Kilkenny ( Crusty).

OK thats enough for now - will update in due course.

Good report again Kev...

I'll have to check out AC sometime.

Is there anywhere else worth checking out? Have you been to Manila?

Cheers Pad - Manila not worth the effort IMO - but if you are flying into there then I guess 2 or 3 nights to check out Makati/Malati and EDSA nightlife areas would be worth considering - I've written about Manila in one of my earlier TR's.

I like northern Luzon - La Union, Baguaio and Vigan are stunning and well worth touring around. Beach breaks to Boracay (back-packer haven) , Puerto Galleria and Cebu. None of these places (except Cebu) has much of a nightlife - so enjoy the scenary and BYO company.

Hi Pad Mc

Agree with K2 that Manilla is more like Bangkok
Did not make it to AC during my trip to Manilla back in September, but did spend 6 nights in Makati, good nightlife and bar sceen in the greenbelt area, and Burgois St was always good fun... More expensive in Makati though, but could not complain about the quality though. All in all had a very "GOOD: time in Makati.

Would really like to check out AC and compare to Manilla.
One thing i did like was that the Philipino people are imo a very friendly bunch and most speak perfect english.

Thanks for the report Kevin. Is it safe to travel around the PI, I seem to remember tourists being kidnapped in the less touristy parts in the past.

In all but remote southern (muslim) parts of Mindanao and Sulu Island archipeligo its perfectly safe to travel. Alas the Abu Sayaf (muslim fanatics) do plant bombs in Manila - one 2 days ago killed 23.

Update in opening post ...

Answers to BM Questions ----

Yes Bono - Bar Fine is inlusive of LT fee (the 'biz') - although a tip of 200 P is usual 'norm'. Of the 1350 BF - girl gets 600 P.

Nels - think you would enjoy both Peuto Galleria and Cebu - Cebu has quite a decent nightlife area - went there 3 years ago for 3 nights - I cold spend longer there and Cebu girls are HOT!

Oli - back Dec 4th.

Well seems I cant edit my OP ... so here goes with Part II

Blue Nile Group - This used to be the power house of AC but looks to be suffrering as the black hole between Doll House and BNG gets ever wider with hotels taking the place of older grotty bars. They still have not opened Golden Nile Casino - mainly since they are battling with the Casino on MacArthur Highway.

Blue Nile & Executive Club - Bad attitude of service staff remains and the interior is a mess. The slot machines have been switched on (hardly much use - the accumilator went up 78P in the hour I was there) but really clutter the bar area - made worse my the huge podiums they have put in so the view of the hydrulic stage is lost. Lots (80+) of pretty girls however but not a place I'll bother going back to.

Upstairs is the Executive Club - watch your step as the stairs are falling apart - I've always liked the Exec and its still the best of what the BNG have to offer with its intimate feel and good choreographed routines. Topless body shots here too pretty popular. Drnks are most expnsive in AC - local drinks 90 P and imported 160 P. Exec leads the way with BF prices but for first time they are in-line with all the other big joints at 1350 P and some very very good value for the cuties on offer!

Nero's - Good early bar with decent afternoon line up and was busy in the evening - recommended and lots of hot girls.

Bed Rock - Weak line up and pushy staff - good thing has a door to Nero's at the back! In dues course you'll be able to walk though Blue Nile - Nero's - Bed Rock to Golden Nile - useful for rainy season.

Camdodia - Past its prime but sound system here work very well. Line up was OK but needs a more lively management team.

Champagne - Gone down hill somewhat since last visit - used to be one of my favorites. Was packed and girls are good but atmosphere not as good as before. Still worth a visit.

Perimeter Road Bars - Did a trike trip to the top end of the street - quite frankly these bars are shoddy and down market. However early evening worth a look (better with mates as going alone you may end up getting mbbed by the desperate girls). Prices are cheap -60P local drinks, 100 P LD and 1000 P BF. Perhaps it would be possible to find a hot girl there - despite my best recceing I only found 2 I liked - but for the dedicated monger there is probably a chance of success. I wont go back and I'm not bothering with Blow Road - but just letting you know that AC has more than the Fields main drag.

Had Thanksgiving lunch in Pacific Breeze - very well done - turkey and all - Bill they are expecting you - left a lasting impression . On sour note have to say that hotel staff should not be treated as fair game - saw some idiot try and paw one of the PB girls and she was pretty upset - considering how friendy the hotel staff are its sad to see them treated in a bad way.

Missed Dog House and SOB this week - on next weeks 'to do' list.

That'll be all for now folks -
