motorcycle hire in Vietnam

Hi Everyone, I am going to Vietnam before heading to Phuket. I would like to hire a motorbike in Vietnam and go south from Ho chi minh. I think it might be easiest to get a private car out of Ho chi minh due to traffic and hire a bike in somewhere like My Tho, anybody out there have any idea if there is places to hire bikes in My Tho or any better ideas. I have never been to Vietnam before.
This forum is great and I am looking forward to getting down to the Mai Thai Bar in Patong,
Ezy

If you do manage to hire one in HCMC, you can get a taxi guy to guide you out of the city to one of the main highways. Its fairly straight forward after that. Driving in LOS is a lot more stressful IMO. You can hire small bikes or scooters fairly easily in HCMC. I don't know about hiring big motorbikes in Vietnam, you don't see many bigger bikes there. Your best bet would be to check it out when your there...

thanks for the info Pad MC, from the research I have done I can see that it is unlikely to get anything big so I will settle for a scooter or moped. My bigger concern than getting out of HCM is getting back in and finding our accom. So I think I will go with your advice and just see if I can organise something when I get there, cheers ezy
