If you are pondering over the idea of visiting Cambodia then go…it’s a fantastic place
I flew from Bangkok to Phnom Pen stayed five days then flew to Siem Reap and stayed a few more days. I now wish I had stayed longer in SR as I liked it much more, I then flew SR direct to Phuket.
You should try and take US dollars and as many small notes as possible. I found that prices were about the same as Thailand except cigarettes which were cheap and drinking was also cheaper 1 US for a glass of draft.
Girls about the same price as here in Phuket. But they are not as full on as Thai girls. In fact if you were not looking for the sex scene you probably wouldn’t know it went on. Escort bars are a plenty in PP and as soon as you open the door they all shout WELCOME! Its like a surprise party when you walk in…funny. They will come sit with you if you ask but they do not hassle you for drinks/sex etc like the pushy Thai’s. A nice change, a bit like you are actually pulling for a girl and not just a business transaction. There are also a few bars with freelance girls in PP such as Sharky Bar and Walkabout bar(24hr). SR however is a bit more difficult. Not so many freelance bars but plenty of massage and shophouses with girls. Ask your driver and they will know where.
Taxi’s are cheap enough, roughly 1 US motorbike taxi, 2 US TUK TUK and cyclo’s even cheaper to go from one place to another in the city center. The bars are all spread out in PP so you will need change for all your Taxi’s or you cab just keep the same driver for the whole day. This is a good idea because they speak good English if you get them from a tourist area and they will keep you out of trouble. Expect to pay 15-20 US for a TUK TUK per day. They will take you around all the sites and wait for you whilst you are in the bars at night then take you home.
PP – stayed at the Paragon hotel on the riverside. 20 Us per night with modern shower etc but the room was noisy in the day due to building work next door.
I also stayed one night in the Tonle Sap guesthouse 18 US per night. Downstairs there is a 24hr bar with pool table and good food. It is near riverside down a soi full of escort bars.
I visted the kilkling fields and the S21 prison…very sad but a must see. The national museum was only a few dollars to get in but the new museum at SR is much better but 12 US entrance fee.
Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples are absolutely amazing….I felt like Indiana Jones, proper Tomb Raider stuff. 20 US for a one day pass. My TUK TUK driver took me around as it is far too big to walk.
Crocodile Farm in SR 2 US entrance plus another 3 US for fish to feed the crocs.
SR has a huge reservoir that you can go swimming in. You pay a couple of dollars and get to use the hammocks and inflatables.
If you have any questions I will try to answer them. Photos to follow.
This monument is filled with skulls from some of the victims...
I have been in Cambodia for 10 days this january is the biggest shithole i ever been no comparison to thailand. I see Pnom phen sihanoukville etc very dirthy
stinking got foodpoisent and is not so cheap wen you like some standards.
When I entered they staff said I could take photos....so I did, then I was told I had to pay a dollar for a photo pass but could only take photos in the garden!!!!
This croc farm was in Siem Reap, only a couple of dollars to get in. They lie there in the sun with there mouths open to cool down and then SNAP! They shut there mouths to a very loud chomp...
I have seen the pyramids, Vegas, Grand Canyon, NY, etc.....but this place is the most amazing in the world!
I was most impressed with the trees and how the jungle just took over this city. As you walk around the jungle sounds with the views are just fantastic...these pictures do not do justice. Make sure you visit these temples once in your life!!!!!

These are photos from the museum at Siem Reap, 12 US entry fee but strictly no photos....I sneaked my camera in.
The museum is new open and was deisgned by a Thai company so no surprise I got lost inside...very difficult to navigate in but worth it, a very good museum.
My Tuk Tuk driver in PP was called Yut, his photo below showing off his new son. They are very poor so I treated them to a DVD player and some clothes for the kids.
You can call both the drivers I used and they will take care of you on your trip, both have good english.
